Not sure of the variety, but I know that it'll grade at VF. Nice purchase!

Only one variety that year, so O-101. I'd say VF-25, perhaps a bit weaker on the reverse. Nice coin!

Nice Christmas present to yourself....now to start looking for a Birthday gift..  Obverse puts it at 30 to me....wondering if the rev knocked it down, but I'll stay at 30.

Thanks for your opinions on grade. Zurie solved my 'trick question' about the variety O-101 because the mintage was only about 29,000 and there was one obverse and one reverse. I liked the coin because the surfaces were smooth and the obverse seemed to be higher than the overall grade of VF20 at PCGS. As many of you noted, the reverse was weaker and probably brought down the grade.

Pretty conservative grade. There are often weak spots on early halves, especially on the reverse pluribus, even on mint state coins. The planchets just weren't all that consistent and the dies wore out quickly. Wear becomes more obvious with a poor strike, but TPGs used to compensate for that. At least VF25 would seem right to me.
