$67. #15 of 40 acquired recently. Recently I purchased 40 slabbed Morgan dollars (36 ANACS, 3 PCGS and 1 ICG) and will post one a day alongside one Peace dollar. I paid an average of $67 for the 40 coins. This time I will post the grade of the coin 2 days after and this time we can compare our grades with those of TPGs. Thoughts? Thanks! MS62, reverse pulls it up a notch, 61 would not surprise me.

Many years ago, one of the grouchy old-time dealers who sold a lot of Morgans had roll after roll of the late 1880s Philadelphia Morgans for sale at show after show. Compared to other dates, those rolls were bargain priced, just over $150-ish back then. I can still hear him teasing his customers at every show about what they should do if they bought one of his rolls of those dates. He would ask them what they planned to do, and his reply to whatever they said was the same: "Just leave them in the roll. Never break the roll." When they asked why or if they tried to come up with reasons, he told them "If you leave them in the roll you don't have to look at them and you can pretend they're pretty."
He was right. The combination of worn dies, poor strikes, bagginess, and generally awful over-production quality makes these dates unloved. There are some interesting VAMs, though.
That's a long-winded story to get to the grade. Non-baggy nice-looking 1886-87-88-89 Morgans are the exception, and this one isn't. I'm at MS-61 here.
