The curved metal flow or surface hairlines on the reverse seems odd, but it's an exact match for an O-108. If the metal composition is correct, it would be hard to call it a counterfeit.

The possible harsh cleaning
does not seem to affect the high point details of the eagle.

How much did you pay for it?

If the deal was too good for the condition of the coin and the price you paid you may have already answered your own question.

Looks very well made for 1820. The strike is unusually uniform and even across the planchet. The fields are very flat with virtually no texture or small defects, except the arc of hairlines possibly due to die polishing on the reverse, The centering is close to ideal. Every denticle is struck up nicely with little variation. Every single star is struck sharply with no flat tops.

Could it be a trial first strike off a new die and/or a presentation piece for the President or member of Congress?
