Thanks in advance to anyone that helps grade this Lincoln Cent. Also, if someone could give me a rough estimate of what this might go for in the market vs. a coin dealer, it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to CCF ozz138!

I think your coin would not grade due to the damage on Abe's upper shoulder. The marks on his face are not as bad but hurt somewhat also. The coin appears to have been softly struck.

My grade would be VF30 Damaged. This coin is in high demand and worth good money even with the problems. A value guesstimate would be $1,000.

I would grade this as VF-25, not enough detail on Lincolns ear.

Hello Ozz, and welcome!
I have an '09-SVDB with a similar level of wear and PCGS graded it VF-35. I agree that your coin looks softly struck on the obverse, with the reverse stronger.

I also agree this one might not be graded at NGC or PCGS. The shoulder scratches might cause a reject, plus the spotting could be corrosion. Can you determine whether the spots are just discoloration, or are there pits that penetrate the surface? If there is corrosion, you might consider sending this coin to NCS for conservation. They can professionally process the coin to stabilize corrosion and prevent further damage.

I'd also go with VF on this piece.

to the CCF! My main concern on this coin is how the corrosion is starting to pit the coin. I would have NCS conserve this coin ASAP followed by encapsulation. Great rarity! Nice coin. The area on Lincoln's shoulder should be of no concern as the coin is already considered a "problem coin". Still, great eye-appeal and a VF30 grade would be my opinion.

VF-30 The shoulder scratches will likely keep it out of an NGC or PCGS holder. This is a prime coin to send to DGS IMO. They will holder it properly and with the correct designation....they may even be able to conserve it for you.

Personally, I don't see any corrosion, but I do see organic deposits. I would conserve this coin myself by soaking first with distilled water, then acetone and finally xylene. If all that failed, I would use other techniques. If you have never done any of these things....DO NOT TRY ON THIS COIN! You need to be experienced and know exactly what you are doing when conserving a $1000 coin....otherwise, NCS is a good choice.

I agree on the vf portion, and also since it is damaged all that pgcs will do is verify authentic.
