Congratulations- well found. You have indeed a beautiful, well circulated, fake Jefferson nickel. Quote: but die marker is the giveaway. Actually the absence of the Philly Mint mark is the most prominent ID for these. Good to see another Henning nickel come to the CCF.

Thanks, all! There is a mountain of info out there in the interwebs about these and some of it that was long ago dogmatic has been proved otherwise with exhaustive research by our own folks here and elsewhere. Common knowledge about the looped R, "theta O" and overweight coins seems to be canon to some but we know now about alternative reverse dies and the diagnostics to confirm. Obviously the lack of a mintmark on the 1944 reverse is a big clue. My local shop told me "nope" after seeing the weight and the lack of anyone locally with an XRF kinda left me looking for expertise. Joe Cronin was easy to contact and got back to me quickly, and gave me some outstanding info. I took some (marginally) better photos with a different lighting setup so you can see more accurately the whole coin. Due to wear it was not easy to spot the little dot above the left side of the Monticello building without magnification but it's there (photo in the original post).
