I just found my first 2026 quarter in change today and I'm confused...there's a P mintmark on the obverse and a D mintmark on the reverse. So which is it?

I believe it's from Philadelphia. The D on the reverse is maybe part of the designer initials?

Unfortunately, its not some rare error, its just the designer Cyrus E. Dallin's initials

You mean initial? D

Why not CD or CED?

If it didn't have the P mint mark on the front, you would def think the D on the back was the mint mark...

So you all don't think the obverse was minted in Philadelphia, then the coins were shipped out to Denver to complete the process....

It's from the secret new St. Louis mint, halfway between Philadelphia and Denver.

It's also a bit odd that the coin bears the initials of two artists and two sculptor-engravers.

There are 4 sets of initials on the quarter. RS and EC on
the obverse and the initials D and PH on the reverse.

That sort of inefficiency is almost expected today.

Come to find out...Cyrus E. Dallin is dead, he died in 1944. But apparently he designed the Pilgrim Tercentenary half dollar and I guess they used the likeness of the ship he designed for the half dollar on this quarter, which is why his initials are on it...
