When I started collecting Barber dimes over 15 years ago, I was just a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed YN. I committed to putting together a date and mintmark set, and within a few years settled on problem-free F-12 as my desired grade. But there was always one coin that I knew I could never get in F-12: the key date 1895-O. I initially put down a VG-8 on my want list, hoping to afford it one day. As years passed and prices inevitably rose, I dropped that grade down to G-4, and I realized that if I put it off too long, that grade will lower yet again. Part of the problem is finding a straight-grade, problem-free, slabbed coin in such a low grade. Good luck finding one even at a large coin show. Fast forward to this year. I was casually perusing Barbers on ebay and unexpectedly stumbled on this beauty: a PCGS G-6 in a Generation 4.0B slab. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, and would by far be the most expensive coin I've ever purchased, but I felt the price was justified. I also knew it would never get cheaper. So. . . cue the dancing strawberries!    Needless to say, I'm thrilled! Is it worn? Of course! Is it better than comps with green beans? See example 1 and example 2 and example 3. You be the judge.  |

Slabbed or not, this coin's a perfect G-6. Sold my Barber dime set, complete with full rims, last year. Personally, I'd crack the '95-O out and remove the obverse staining with Coin Care or Blue Ribbon. This coin deserves it, methinks! |

Edit: looking at the other examples, I'd say this one is different but comparable. I see Greysheet has a $200 dollar spread between G6 and G6CAC, so might be worth a shot.
In regards to the three examples, I like the circulation cameo on #3 the best, presumably buyers did as well since it sold for nearly $90 more than the others.

Yeah I'm considering reaching out to a CAC authorized dealer and seeing how much it'll cost to try for a green bean. I agree that #3 is the best of the three examples, as the circulation cameo is appealing. But it also has several significant marks and weaker rims than mine. All of that makes me optimistic that I could get a sticker. I just haven't decided if it's worth the cost. Quote:

 NICE! Congratulations on your acquisition. Coincidentally, I was at an auction Saturday, and the first item was an 1895-O Barber dime / PCGS VG-08. For reference, that coin sold for $925+fees (~10% buyer's premium.) The one in the auction looked like it may have some PVC residue, but it straight graded.
