First I'll thank Vector Ze for lighting a fire under me (with his comment of his copper cents rolled hoard). So, I bought a box of 100 clear tubes, started to organize by decades and filled about 5 tubes of the 1910's (1910 thru 1919) Here's a shot once I separated them by year and mint marks (found 3 more 09VDB's, seen closest to my loupe) from left to right we start with 1910 and of course end with 1919, middle row would be SanFrans and bottom row is Denver (15 thru 19)

Mind you this is just a start, still have maybe 150 dollars or more of LWC to go. Don't think I'll spend the $$$ on clear tubes for the 40's or 50 era LWCs, mind you I did start filling some for now, but will probably change over to shotgun tubes. Here's a shot of the storage box so far.

And here's a shot of what I plan to release back into the wild, small right now but trust me many many more will be released...do you agree, set free or keep? center cent is I believe 1912

"If you love something, set it free..." Well, maybe not everything you love, but definitely these cents. Let someone else have the joy of finding them - it may spur them to take up the hobby.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Right - I use Ball Canning jars for my 40's & 50's. You can get a bit over 1000 in the quart jars. Plus use the older ones - they have thicker glass and don't have to worry about the bottoms breaking.

EDIT: Added a picture...........

Of the coins in the photo, the 1948-D and the 1927 would not escape my hoard.
Thanks for the shout out and compliment.
If I can find this thread tomorrow, I might post a photo of a nifty rack gifted to me by a woodworking co-worker many years ago. It's essentially like a five tier test tube rack, designed to hold 50 round tubes (by my description to her). The holes are actually sized for Nickel tubes, so it works for Cents, Nickels, and Dimes. It's been really useful to me for sorting over the years I've had it.

EDIT: I just discovered a baggie of Wheaties a couple of days ago I'd forgotten about. It weighs 1,031 grams, so more than 300 to add, heh!

Very cool idea and one that I need to go back to. At one point, I was very organized but that went by the wayside long ago, now I just have cans, jars, jugs and cigar boxes full of miscellaneous coins with absolutely no direction.... I had started keeping high end memorials that I would find while searching bank rolls in the tubes by year/mm then got lazy. Good luck, Greasy!

GreasyFingers, looking good! Yes, set as many free as possible, and then post on the $10 circulating Wheat cents/pennies topic.
Finds like these in change can encourage people to examine their change and perhaps start their journey to collecting coins.
