Here's my NGC-slabbed 1867 Half Dime. This is one of the first coins I bought from a Heritage auction, back in 1998. Any comments or grade opinions on this one?

Unfortunately, the obverse of the slab itself barely makes F12 (), so grading is difficult. The reverse is stunning.

It's a Proof, I'm guessing?

I'll take a wild guess and say PF-64...most seem to be around there. Very nice toning.

Very nice coin Jaobler! It's my 1882 PF Seated dime's little sister. :-) I can't tell how many of the hairlines are on the plastic as oppposed to the coin, so I supposr it could go anywhere between PF-62 and PF-64.

You guys know a proof when you see it! It's graded PR-64 and the obverse streaks are almost all on the slab. I was unable to get a clear obverse photo. Someday it might be worth sending it in for re-holder service.

As an aside, I targeted this date because the business strike mintage was just 8,000 pieces. 625 proofs were struck which is about normal for this series but the business strike total is the second-lowest for any Half Dime, behind the ultra-rare 1802. I figured the low business strike mintage might eventually push up the value for the proofs. I'm still waiting for my theory to work out!

The obverse of Seated coinage is always rather wishy-washy, but the reverse of this one is so absolutely hammered that I couldn't imagine it being other than a Proof.

Meguiars has a couple of products I've been meaning to test on slabs:

Before I saw the answer, my guess was Proof-64. Sweet coin, especially the reverse.
