hi, I'm gee, and new here. I live in Leicestershire in England, and this is my first time in any forum. the reason I am here is I have a coin that was given to me 40 years ago, by an aunt form america, it is a 1921 Morgan silver dollar. I have read various website reports concerning the coin. One thing that keeps cropping up is the "Chapman" proofs. i have studied the pictures of these coins and read about the varoius marks and it seems that my coin is very similar to a Chapman, can anyone tell me how to be sure as I have asked a couple of coin dealers here and they don't know. thanks gee

What makes you think this is a chapman proof?

the only thing I know is what I have read, apart from that I know nothing. but the chapman proof markings seem present , even a very small line from the edge to about half way to the 3rd star down on the left hand side. this is only visible with strong magnification. BUT again I really do not know, so all I need to know is it worth getting it checked out?

Well I dont know a lot but I do know that something is up with that morgan. There is a lot of detail and almost no marks but a lot of hair lines running horizontal. Wizzed maybe? I don't know. I also know that a lot of 21 morgans have a lot of die breaks, the line you are seeing could just be that. But then again who knows?

Hi Gee!! Here are some duplicate photos of a Chapman Proof 1921 Morgan from the ones I left on your welcome post (In the Introduction section). You have a great 1921 Morgan. But, I don't think you have one the VERY few (10) Chapman proofs. I included a lot of information about this auction in your Introduction post reply.

The coin looks an abrasively cleaned XF. I don't know too much about proof morgans, but I would be shocked if this was one. Thanks for sharing and WELCOME TO THE FORUMS! :-)
