I think that there are indications that the finds are not being correctly labeled. You simply don't find as much as he says he finds in so few coins being searched. The statistics indicate that the identification of the coins is incorrect. I suspect a lot of Large Dates instead of Small Dates on the 1970 S cents. And I suspect a lot of mis-identification on the 1972 cents he mentioned.
I am not saying these things to stir a hornets nest of response, but having searched through millions of coins I strongly feel that what is being found is being incorrectly identified.
These are words of encouragement as it is a good idea to be able to identify these types of coins correctly. There is nothing more heartbreaking than sitting down with a collector who wants to show me twenty five years worth of doubled die collecting only to have 99% of the coins be the victims of
Machine Doubling. This has happened several times. It is best to know what these coins look like rather than to label them incorrectly and put them away with a false sense of value.
