I figured I might as well take a look at the piles of stuff on my desk and have been lucky enough to find some that are interesting to me. I still need help though identifying what kind of doubling I have found so sorry in advance for the flood of posts that may be coming.

I may not be an expert in spotting real errors but I sure enjoy looking for them.

and thanks for your help and opinions.

malissa

We might have something here, I have a book on doubled dies, I shall look at it for any 71 proofs varieties.

I don't have info on anything that looks like this. Check the FS initials for doubling.
I don't think this is the
1971-S PR
WDDO-002
WDDO-0014 or
WDDO-022

which are the only 3 DDO 1971 Proofs I have images for.

thank you both! I guess even if it isn't a "real" doubled die it is still really nice. I may be the only person that will buy Machine Doubling coins just because I really like them.

I wish they would invent an album that has a space for the coin and also a space next to it for a picture. then I could put a close up shot and coin together.

That does not mean it is not a doubled die. I tend to need one to smack me in the face to spot one or compare the die characteristics with a book or web page so you might have one, I might not have the info for you that's all.

the s looks doubled to me, nickel DDO's arent documented as well as cents so it usually takes some time to identify whats what, its very possible you have something undocumented as well.

thanks xavier. How is it that someone can get something documented then? Is there a specific person I can email pics to or anything like that?

Hi,

This NOT a doubled die. This IS what a proof looks like as it is struck by a proof die that is soon to be retired.

It is Die Deterioration Doubling on a proof. It is not that uncommon, especially on five-cent coins.

Thanks,
Bill
