I noticed this nickel and figured at the risk of hearing " Machine Doubling" I will post anyway in case it isn't. thanks for any and all opinions

there were too many pictures for one post so I am posting just a few and if you need to see more you can follow the album link.

I inlcuded photos of cracks only because I like them (not because they are doubled)

Your last photo looks like a lamination not a crack to me. As for it being a DD I would say yes.

thanks John! I almost always hear Machine Doubling so now I finally have one that's worth putting away. :)

This might be WDDO-006 aka Coneca 5-O-VI.
The T in Liberty looks almost exact. Your pictures show different places on the coin than my guide.
Is there a small raised dot ( die gouge ) on the reverse to the right of the 4th column?

when I removed it from the holder again I saw that it was just 2x2 dust.

I took close ups of the reverse so you can see if there's anything important or helpful there.

Hi,

Here is the issue with these. Take for example a certain 1972 Lincoln Cent DDO that is the result of master die doubling. Ultimately half of the 1972 cents from all three mints exhibit the form of doubling that was passed on by that master die.

On War Nickels, we have the same thing. While it is technically a doubled die, it has also been estimated that more than 50% of all War Nickels are doubled around the TY of Liberty, the star and parts of the date.

So it may be worth putting away for the lamination error but the doubled die does not add value to the coin other than to those who are not aware of this fact.

Occasionally, this type of DDO is noticed and I get the opportunity to let you know that if you have 20 War Nickels in your collection, you should find this doubling on at least 6 to 8 of them and perhaps more.

Thanks,
Bill
