Here is the issue with these. Take for example a certain 1972
Lincoln Cent DDO that is the result of master die doubling. Ultimately half of the 1972 cents from all three mints exhibit the form of doubling that was passed on by that master die.
On
War Nickels, we have the same thing. While it is technically a doubled die, it has also been estimated that more than 50% of all
War Nickels are doubled around the TY of Liberty, the star and parts of the date.
So it may be worth putting away for the lamination error but the doubled die does not add value to the coin other than to those who are not aware of this fact.
Occasionally, this type of
DDO is noticed and I get the opportunity to let you know that if you have 20
War Nickels in your collection, you should find this doubling on at least 6 to 8 of them and perhaps more.
