About $80.00 :) Just funning you. On this particular year and mintmark - 1964-D The mint accidently used the wrong reverse die on some quarters. I believe the incorrect die used was from an early 1965 reverse wash. quarter die regular business strike. Correct me if I am wrong here someone. The type of dies used on wash. quarters were classified as three different types. Types A,B and C over the years. Maybe someone can post some pics. and or links about them. There has been much discussion on these on here in the past so I am sure many posts still exist. Try a search on them on here. Also on some type B reverse die varieties on 1956 thru 1964 P mint only wash. quarters. These carry a premium also but not as high as the type C which is only found on the 1964-D quarter. I do not know if an actual mintage is known on how many were made. But apparently it was not a high number thus giving them a pretty good premium. Hope that helps some. Once you get a look at the 3 different types of reverses and studying them, you will see what to look out for.

easiest way to tell type C is look at the tail feathers on rev.(a central rib indicates proof die was used instead of the circulation die...also weak strike on eagles talons. It appears the value for these coins is rising, so hold onto any you find especially those in mint state...Indian is correct, there are many prior discussions about Type A,B,and(the more valuable)type C Washington quarters...happy hunting!

How about that, I'm learning something new everyday.
Alright, I'm having a problem IDing the difference here. It looks like the leaves west of the arrows are sharper in detail. What notable part stands out for the type c? Thanks

Here are some pics. of an Unc. example along with another C coin. Note the detail and sharpness of the leaves and tips, as well as the detail/veining in the tail feathers. Also their position. Compare these with an ordinary 64-D rev. You will get the picture pretty quick and then learn how to spot them. I think I need to amend my earlier post stating that this reverse was a business strike 1965. I think it was a proof rev. instead. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008...evcbu(1).jpghttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2008...64Dc1rev.jpg

That's a great help. I first looked at the reverse of a 1965 business to see the difference, then wasn't totally sure. Thanks

I have to look at my books etc. I thought the type B rev. was the proof strike. Anyway, just study the diff's from the pics. and an ordinary 64-D On a pretty much circulated type C the tail feathers may not show the splines/veining as well so make sure by the leaf details.

Now I remember. Thanks to Harveypb harveypb has a lot of experience with these. As a matter of fact the pic. above was sent to me by him. Thanks Harv :) the 64-D C is the 1965 reverse.
