Just found this New Mexico State Quarter roll searching this afternoon.

Is this a DDR or a well placed die chip?

I know this is not the 2008P NEW Mexico 1DDR- 001 (I found one of those last month and this coin is not it)

I've also sent pics of this coin off to Mr Wiles (CONECA).

Follow-up (09/18/09)
*Just got an answer from Mr Wiles. This is a DDR and he has assigned it as 2008P DDR -003 3R VIII Stage A, EDS.

It will probably be posted when Mr Wiles updates his site at Variety Vista.

I believe if you do an overlay of this coin, you will find a partial die clash, trust me......Just my opinion.

Could be a die clash.
Looks like it might be a piece of Washington's hair from the Obverse.

Thanks for the input.

Or it could be a gouge. I would keep it for now till you know for sure. (It keeps you from kicking yourself later to find out differently.)

I just got a answer from Mr.Wiles.
He said it does indeed look like a DDR and to send it in for a closer look and attribution.

I'll be sending the coin out tomorrow- will post results after that.

Coop, Could you in your infinite powers do an overlay of this Quarter, Mike?

coop:

If this will help with a possible overlay as suggested from Mike,
here are some more pics of the coin.

If you do the overlay and it shows that this is/is not a die clash, I'm pretty certain that Mr Wiles will come up with the same conclusion.

*Coin is in the mail, so I'll know soon enough from Mr Wiles if its a DDR or not.*

Thanks coop.

Chuckster125, I am not certain, However I do believe your coin exhibits the "clash marks" out side of the diagram, I mean see the fine "wave like " lines around the diagram and they even enter the diagram's perimeter.

This is just my observation and uncalled for opinion, either way, I wish you ALL the results you are seeking and personally, I am also looking to see "the experts opinions"...Mike

Hard to tell from your images where the mark is, but here is an overlay. I couldn't use the mint's images for this coin cause they are no longer posted. But I scanned one and colorized it to show where the devices could touch. See if this helps. There is a clash that could affect the reverse that crosses a reverse design. See if that connects?

Thanks Mike and coop- really appreciate all your help on this!

As far as this being a die clash, it very well could be, but then again maybe not, I don't know, thats why I sent the coin to Mr Wiles.

Thanks again for the support.

On the reverse image of my coin, there is a strong line that would intersect the area in question.

I don't see it coop?

I see an intersection to the right, but not on the left where this mark is on the coin unless more than likely I have no idea what the heck I'm looking at! (LOL)

The mark on your coin would show the continued line in this area.

I see what you mean now coop!

Looks like it runs continuously but it seems to be more slanted and at a different angle from where the mark on my coin is located..

Again, maybe I'm looking at it all wrong.

Thanks for the help and as soon as I hear from Mr Wiles, I'll post the outcome.

Chuck.

During die clashes the dies sometimes bounce making 1 and more lines on the die. They can also move in a different direction as well. So it appears to be a clash to me. Always good to get a second opinion.
