I just went to my local pawn shop and bought a couple of SLQ's for my album. I bought the 1919 for about $25, and the other two both for $10. What do you think the grades are of those, and do you think I got a good deal? The 1919 has been dipped though, I think. Any comments or advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

2. VG
3. F

The 1919 is close to EF and has a strong date compared to most examples. It's not easy to get good-looking circulated specimens of this date. I don't see an obvious dipping problem since the color looks pretty natural. The $25 cost was a very good deal IMO.

The other two coins are common dates in VG to Fine grade and the price was not great, but OK. These two also look original. All three coins should do very well for a circulated set of SLQs.

I'd grade the 1919 VF30.

Ok, thanks for all the comments and advice, the 1919 is unfortunately a little too white and shiny in hand, which is why I suspect it was dipped. The 1919 also seems to have a rotated reverse, does that add to the value?

As noted a really nice deal for a circulated set. Hopefully your putting them in an Album. If so, go with Whitman although almost everyone here is stuck on Dansco. I too really like that 19. EF is what I'd say however, I seldom care about grades as long as you can tell what the date is.
As to rotated reverses. No big thing at all. Many coin books that discuss errors don't even mention them. Note the Red Book, pages 400 and up, talk about errors and don't mention rotated reverses at all.
If you think they are something, if you have any Mercury dimes you would notice about 20 to 25% of all of them have some slight reverse rotation. Don't know why that coin was so poorly quality controlled but obviously not.

Ok thanks for the advice, I just looked through some of my Mercurys and already found 2 with rotated reverses, and I'll keep looking. Is there a series where rotated reverses are rare, and carry a premium? I just bought a Dansco for the SLQ's, but I have my Mercury dimes in a Whitman.

The 1919 looks good to me but that isn't saying much. Can anyone comment on the suspected dipping? I'm pretty good with cleaned/dipped Merc. dimes and would be interested in knowing what a more trained eye might see. I would have taken the deal at $25 without a second thought. Nice grab for your first SLQs!

Although hard to notice because of my bad pics, there are no lines on the shield, and there are barely any feathers on the eagle's breast. The coin also is very light in hand. I'd post a better pic to show the dipping, but I can't find my loupe.

I'm pretty new at this, but I think the 1919 would go EF. All the drapery is intact. It looks like there is some detail on the face. I think it is a nice coin! And IMHO a great deal!
