I thought I'd post a picture of this. I was a little surprised!
(They're not rare I know, but I definitely don't see them everyday!)

Geez that really is a nice find given how nice it looks. I've only ever found two, but one is basically worn down beyond belief and the other one has black soot marks all over it. Your nickel makes me jealous...

Yeah probably..

I found about 6 of them over time, and all of them were all about the same condition... all dark and really worn down (G-VG)

Great find! I work in retail and had an employee say "I don't know why someone spent all these halves?" After further investigation I found a 90% and two 40% all for $1.50! I love those unexpected finds.

That's a nice nickel. I have found a total of 7 War Nickels in circulation. The two shown below, 1943-P and 1943-S, are my nicest finds.

That's a great find Moe145 .... and a nice photo as well. I wish I knew how to take such a fine photo.

Anyways ..... this is IMHO indeed a 'rare' find in pocket change considering the scarcity of War Nickels ......

To help us calibrate the 'rarity' ..... I'm almost at 110,000 nickels searched in bank rolls .... and find a War Silver on average every 3425 coins searched.

Soooooo ..... imagine how long it takes to get 3425 nickels in change from the local grocery to find a War Silver .... that makes it a 'rare' event in my book.

Thanks for sharing the story and great photo ....... I do wish to know how you took the photo so I can learn.

I use my wife's old Olympus Stylus portable camera.

In the Guide section, there is a Super Close Up mode, that when selected selects Super Macro mode.

This mode then uses the auto-focus on close shots (up to about an inch.) I usually shoot the coins at around three to four inches away.

I just use the single incandescent lamp on my nightstand with a piece of white paper underneath it.

THEN after downloading the photos to the computer, I use Irfanview software to crop and size it. (I usually only allow around 525 pixels per side (L x w) so it doesn't overburden the CCF upload programs. (It's usually 70-90 Mb pix and we're allowed up to around 100 Mb.

Irfanview software is free too! (Irfanview.com)

I hoped this helped!

I've only ever found a couple in circulation too.....those are nice Moe ....

My Dad, a year or two back gave me A WHOLE SANDWICH BAG FULL OF War Nickels ! If I remember right there were just over 100 War Nickels in there ! I have all the mints and years covered many times over.
Isn't that awesome !
He had saved them all as a kid, he told me......I'm sure glad he did. Got em' down at the SDB at the bank where they'll stay safe and sound .....and can sleep for another 30 years or so.
Maybe around the 100th anniversary of the " War Nickel", I'll wake them up !

great find. I found 8 in four rolls last week, 5 43P, 1 43S, 1 44P, & 1 45P.

these were in the old green wrappers. The rest of the nickels were 64 and below, in fact, one roll had 35 1964s in it, the others were 61, 63s. The other rolls had late 40s to 59. There was on 1939. None were as nice as yours. Congrats.
