Are these lines a result of polishing, die breaks or gouges? Looks like a lightning bolt took off Lincoln's head.

Wow...that die sure got scored! Perhaps feeder damage is another possibility?

die gouges 'possible that feeder fingers scraped across the die face'and are to blame.

Too sharp to be a plating issue and not at random like a plating issue. Die damage from the feeder fingers.

coop do you mean that feeder fingers scraped across the die without a planchet in it ? The lines are all over the coin

While the coins were being inserted or ejected, the feeder fingers rub against the die creating the wear lines on the die. Thus they only show on the fields of the coin as the fields are on the outside face of the die.

Thanks coop as always for the info. By the way, are these average feeder finger scratches or more severe?
