The 1950D although being the key date was also hoarded in huge quantities when released (making them affordable in MS) This is the only date I had to buy for my set! So, how much did you pay?

.... What did you have to pay to get it?

This may be one of the few US coins that is harder to find in circulated condition than MS ..... a consequence of the hoarding going on at the time.

Your coin looks like a nice AU example ..... I wonder about the story behind it?

Well the story goes.... I'm a route driver for a local company and I get to visit alot of places and the search function on my GPS is a great feature. So I found this dealer a few towns over and made a lunch stop, He has alot of nice coins and I saw this one sitting in the case. I asked him what he wanted for it and he said $16.00, So wasnt sure about it and I thought I read somewhere on here about it so I came home and did some research on here. Found out it was kinda scarce, SO the next day I'm back up there and it was still there. He also had a few merc dimes that I needed for my Dansco that are in better than great condition and a very fair price. So I scoop up the mercs that I needed and he says here....."take the nickle that you keep eyeing". I asked him how much, All he said was your a new collector this is a gift from me to you. I told him I just couldnt accept a freebie, This went back and forth for a minute or 2 and we decided that I could at least buy him lunch. So I went down to his favorite place to eat and bought him his lunch and we sat there for almost an hour and talked about coins. I gained a wealth of knowledge from him in that short of time but more importantly I gained a friend with a common interest.

You should share who this dealer is, as he seems to merit business! I'm sure there are forum members in Ohio who would buy there. If I lived there, the guy would get my business!

This is a happy story. A wonderful nickel that means something special to you. I have a few of these but none shine as nice as yours does with that story behind it. As I see you are kind of new to CCF, I sure am glad you joined.

Wonderful to hear such stories still taking place. Good behavior from someone in the hobby extending themselves to a new collector.

Welcome aboard!

I knew there was a story behind the coin ..... but I never imagined it was such a nice sharing story as you told ohioguy.

Welcome again to the forum and thanks for sharing a very positive story of coin folks connecting.
