I received my Lincoln Chronicles Set and absolutely love it. Upon closer inspection of my coins I noticed spots on the cents and even a spot on my dollar Proof! I was disappointed but I still think the set is beautiful. I plan to keep my set a very long time and pass it down. But if sometime in the future worse comes to worse and I have to sell it, (now this is where I need advice) What would be your opinion if I took my NGC graded pf 69 ultra cameo Lincoln Dollar to replace my one in the set' and took my 4 cents out of my 2009 Proof set which are spot free and replaced them for my spotted coins. I know it would bring down my Proof set( not Silver), but I think it would greatly enhance my Chronicles set, which I personally think will be worth more in the future. Would this be a dumb move or what?

I just received my set yesterday. All of the coins were very nice except for the Log Cabin cent which had spots on the obverse I am already contemplating the purchase of a single Log Cabin proof or maybe get the Lincoln Cent proof set and split it up...

I think a Lincoln Chronicle and coin set with good coins will have a much greater value then a clad proof set I would swap the coins.
Also the mint is selling just the four proof cents (LN2) for 7.95. One of these could be used to replace the coins in your chronicle set or your proof set if you wanted to have both complete with good coins. I was going to order a couple LN2 sets on my next order but I might wait a buy them from a dealer so I can see the coins first ... would pay a little more but can see the coins first.

I'd swap them out. You may be right from the point of future value but it sounds like you'd also be happier if you did. I have a spotted cent that I'm going to swap out. It's not tops on my list of things to do but I've got the cent I need to do it.

How easy is it to swap out coins? Can it be done without damaging coin or display holder?

I have the same issue with one of my cents. Appears like there is some toneing on the coin. I am going to leave it because I want to keep the original set just the way it is. Are the other proofs you guys are talking about 95% copper also or were these specially made for this set?

All of the 2009 Lincoln proofs are bronze, there are no Zincoln proofs this year(unless a planchet gets mixed up somewhere...)

my coins in the set all looked pretty good. I haven't inspected the obverse real closely yet. I wouldn't think it would be a problem to take the proof coins and put the best looking ones in the chronicles set if you wanted the most aesthetically pleasing chronicles set.

Thanks for all your input, I think I will definately change the pennies.
What about the graded Lincoln Dollar I have, this is my first one (graded) and forgive my ignorance but would I put the dollar in the set airtite and keep the holder by it? or is that completely taboo. I do realize people can say that is not really the coin for that holder of course, but I thought I have read that is done sometimes. I would think that is not the thing to do especially if it were to be sold, however I would like the dollar to be in the set as originally done. Again, I will go with expert opinon, Any thoughts?

When the mint made the sliver proof lincoln dollars. I am sure they were all made at the same time, same run of coins. Same with the proof one cent coins. I would think that no one was told to sort out the best 50,000 dollars just for the chronicle set.
What makes this set special is the holder/album. Along with the COA. I will treat this holder the same I would a Dancso coin album and upgrade to the best coin I could have in each slot.
It would have been nice if the mint would have made thses dollars somehow more special, maybe how they did the Grant (star) or Alabama (2X2) half dollars.

Quote: would I put the dollar in the set airtite and keep the holder by it? or is that completely taboo. Some people just keep the label from the slab somewhere with the coin after they crack it out. You might want to take some good photos of the coin & slab before cracking it out, just in case.

I was just at a big coin show today, and I saw plenty of slabbed MS69 Proof Lincoln Dollars going for around $70 (about the same price as the Proof Lincolns still in the OGP!), so it wouldn't be a problem to buy one of those, crack it out and put it in the Mint capsule... Oh, and I saw three LN6 Sets for sale in dealers' cases... (going for around $160) The Cents in my LN6 Set are sharp and high-grade, but they're a shade darker than the Cents in my Clad and Silver Proof Sets, so if I really wanted the LN6 Set to be more 'red' than 'bronze', I could swap those out. (but the darker color kind of 'fits in' with the brown packaging) Now I'm curious to see what the Cents in the LN2 One Cent Proof Set will look like! So, if I were you tls867, I'd crack out the Proof Dollar (or buy another MS69), and then buy an LN2 Set. Even if the LN2 Cents are not as nice as your Silver Proof Cents, they could be used to replace the coins in your Silver Proof Set. They likely will even be in the same lens in the LN2 Set as they are in the Proof Sets!

Got the spotted penny syndrome myself...one cent also had an interesting "blob" on it. The dollar was almost perfect. One small bit of chatter on it. Think I may order the four cent package along with a Braille dollar coin to save on postage.
