This is my next quest. To improve this set to higher grades and more full bell lines. I am sitting pretty good as it is. Set is almost all Mint State shown here, especially the main keys. I have a few extras in graded slabs and some duplicates. This toned set came out of a windowed Whitman album and is now in Airtites. I like the man Benjamin Franklin He was highly intelligent, patriot, founding father, inventor, diplomat, writer and many other fine things. I especially like his words of wit and wise proverbs. Some may consider this coin design ugly, but you could never convince me of it.

How much would a set like this one cost? By the way I also think that the coin is beautiful.

I think it's an alright design too! Certainly no worse than any of the current issues!

Quote: How much would a set like this one cost? I don't know but I would take a wild guess and say maybe an uncirculated MS63 plus set might be around 1200.00 where an MS65 would probably be closer to 2,000.00 and then the X factor of which coins had true full bell lines could multiply that figure surprisingly upwards, even with the right date and mintmarks to 5 figures. The situation mine is in, uh, maybe ... geeze I don't know. I recently bought a hardcover book by Q D Bowers to do some studying, so I might spot some cherries in the future.

Quote: did you or are you going to add the proofs as well Oh I would love to do the proofs too. 1950 is only about 400 or 500 bucks right? LOL! Gotta get my 71 No S nickel first. Ha! But it is a possibility, not a real far fetched idea. Certainly would be a smart investment.

Very nice Wheezydog. I need a 49S and a 51 to complete my set. So far, all but one is either fbl's and proofs (1 ms63, several 64's & 65's and two 66's). I have two in the mail now that I bought as raw coins, althought the pics looked good, now sure until I see them. I have several toned coins in my set which I really like. Unfortunately, I have to buy online for most of my purchases. I have one small coin shop in town and he only keeps a small number of coins on hand...he can "always get anything you want....." but that has not worked out yet.

That is one awesome set! I,too, collect Franklins. I need 4 to finish my set: 49S, 51D, 52S & 53S.

Quote: I recently bought a hardcover book by Q D Bowers to do some studying, so I might spot some cherries in the future. wheezydog Nice set, I too love the franklins. Still missing the 51D for my circulated set and 49's 50's and 51's for my mint state set. Easy cherry pickings right now are the type II reverses on the 58 and 59 issues, seems the mint got confused and used some proof reverses on the circulating coins (akin tothe 98,99 and 00 cents with Wide AM). They are easy to spot also, on the reverse look at the eagles roost, if there are 3 distinct feathers to the left of the perch it is a type II 4 and it is a type I. Not a whole lot of prmium now unless they are ultra high grade but fun to collect. Kie
