One must remember in this hobby all coins, regardless of wear, still can have value and for the most part all of them do. Many collectors upgrade their collection and the older worn coins don't have the appeal or value they once had and passing them on to beginning collectors is a very good idea. One must hope the beginning collector values the gifts and holds on to them until such a day he/she can upgrade and then PASS them on to another young man or young lady who is starting out in the world of numismatics! I have shipped coins to various young folks here in the states and have donated to ND's program last year in hopes of providing opportunities to other unknown children to enter our hobby! Coin collecting can be a life long adventure that can be shared with family and friends and to encourage that adventure is something we all can do! Good luck to all you new comers to the hobby and may you all find a mentor to keep you interested and on the path!

Cool-what are you looking for? Anything in particular or just anything "junk". Crystalk64's comments are great ones for the young collectors to remember.

Nice sarcasm Dogman. All kidding aside. I think it would be a good idea kind os as a donation forum or some thing to give young collectors as MYSELF and others on this site a kool stasrting coin or something like that.

I seeall the ebay threads with people spending thousands of dollars on coins. I DO NOT HAVE FUNDS LIKE THAT to spend hundreds of dollars on coins.I go to the under five dollar part of ebay and I rarely win becase I cant spen 50 dollars on coins at a time.

So before this whole thing turns into sarcasm I think it would be pretty cool if someone out of there own generousity gave me some coins to start me off Becuase As I said I do not have the funds.

THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS!

No one in my family collects coins so no one can pass down a collection to me so It really stinks to keep losing bids and not have a way to expand my collection

Hi lax

I see what you are saying, and its tough to build a collection on a budget especially a low budget.

But I did it when I was a kid, I picked up pop bottles ,cans and did yard work for my neighbors, I bucked hay, I washed cars, I did anything to earn the .50 cents that most folks paid back then to buy coins, or go to the bank to get rolls to search,, there was no internet, and no forums with ,thoughtful, generous people.

Now its possible that someone will send you coins or offer you coins, but its bad forum etiquette to ask .

Hope you understand that we are glad to have our youth members here, and we look forward to helping ,, its a big part of our day to spend time here, and its exciting for us to see you grow in knowledge and to see your collection advance,, we love every minute of it.

Try posting a few coins that your looking for in the want to buy forum and see what happens !!

Rick

Searching rolls is a very easy inexpensive way to get a few collectable coins. Wheat cents are not that scarce yet occationally I find silver Roosevelt dimes. Anyway that is what I do when I am short on funds. -Dewayne

Metalman has given some very good advice. I would go on to say having a dream is a good thing. WORKING to achieve that dream is a BETTER thing. Coin collecting is a life long adventure and we/you/us can't do it all at once. Enjoy the hunt as half the fun is the journey to get there!!!

Here's a thought to ponder. I have a neighbor who goes on a 10 mile bike ride every morning. He tootles around parking lots etc. and looks for things that are shining on the pavement. He had $3.00 in his pocket last week in less than an hour as well as some very good exercise. Last year he said that he collected over $2300.00 in just change that he picked up from the ground. Some people may think that's silly to pick up a coin but, it may be THE coin or it may be a coin to save to spend. A thing that I have done in the past is to walk past pay telephones and check the return box. I know how silly that sounds but, I found $3.00 in one once! It's a thought!
