There are many good coin deals to be made at flea markets, with dealers, and at pawn shops. There are also a lot of good deals on the internet. The key to being able to recognize and take advantage of these deals is to educate yourself on the series you're collecting so that you know what to look for.
Grading is of the utmost importance in the value of a coin. The
Red Book gives some guidelines but the Photograde book is much better to learn from. With the Morgan series, there are also certain mints that are known for weaker strikes and a lot of VAMs to consider. As the Morgan series is one of the most popular to collect, there are many books available to learn from. We also have quite a number of Morgan collectors here who will be more than willing to help you.
Remember that you have a responsibility as a buyer to know what you are purchasing. You also have the disadvantage of being young in that a seller may try to take advantage of you due to your age. Other dealers may be more willing to help you get a good deal because of your age. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to tell the difference.
Hope this helps you out a little.
