I picked this up today at a local antique mall. The only info I have found on the net is that there were only 2000 made & that it's worth more than melt to Panda collectors. I didn't even know there were Panda collectors.

Anyway, I'm hoping someone might be able to help with a diameter and a value.

My back of the napkin calculations say the coin should weigh around 4.22+ grams. My scale is only accurate to .1 gram & is showing 4.3 so I think I'm ok there.

The coin is in an airtight, any marks in the pictures are on it & not the coin.

China gold bullion issue. The actual coin weight should be 3.11g but you've also got the weight of the airtight but Krause doesn't list the diameter. KM#392 (previously Y#342). Proof value $110, according to the 2010 edition, but the price of gold has shot up somewhat since publication. You could probably add at least 25% to that.
Nice little coin but the Chinese make so many different varieties every year (although in low mintages). Couldn't hope to think about collecting them myself.

Coin weight of 3.11g is for the 1/10th oz Panda. This is the bimetallic coin, which has the 1/10th oz gold coin surrounded by an additional 1/28th oz of silver.

Sweet looking coin. I have a couple gold coins, but no Panda specimens yet. Thanks for sharing this.

You can find the mintage information at http://www.pandacoins.net/pandacoin1992.html According to the data, there were only 2,000 coins minted.

According to the Chinese Coin Values and Price Guide at http://www.chinesecoinvalues.com/?p=247 (on 10/15/2009), the price is around $675. "1992 Chinese bimetallic panda coin -- 1/10oz gold + 1/28oz silver $675.00"

I have a 2003 silver panda. It belongs to the beautiful coin category of my collection.

I did a search on the net & didn't come across either of those sites, thanks for the info. The coin matches exactly the pictures I have found on the net & the weight seems right. It looks like I made a good score if the $675 is accurate.

I found two more examples.
At the http://www.coinex.net/chinabimetal.html , 1992 bimetallic panda is sold at $639 and 1994 bimetallic is sold at $349.

At the ebay, a 1994 bimetallic is sold at $395. (http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI...link:top:en)

It seems the retail price should be around $600-700 for a 1992 bimetallic panda. Good job.
