Have you thought about what you achieved in 2009 and what you want to make happen in your collection for in the new year?

I met all my stated goals for 2009. I got organized and backed up my inventory with an external hard drive copy. I moved everything into safe storage and added another desiccant pack to the SDB. I continued to give coin gifts to my grand nieces and nephews and grand child. I also finished circulated sets of Walking Liberty halves and Mercury dimes and silver Roosevelts. I replaced all the circulated Lincolns from 35 -59 with BU red cents, and I finished a Walker short set in BU. I also continued upgrading type coins in the 7070 to a minimum grade of XF-40.

My goals for the new year include joining ANA, and NGC or PCGS. I have thought about what sets of coins and series that I really still enjoy. In addition to my BU Morgans, Including GSA - CC mint coins, the sets that I consider key to my collection are the 7070 with gold page, Lincoln Wheats 7100, Franklin half dollar in BU, and the Walker short set in BU. I want to start a BU Peace dollar set. In order to finance that and other upgrades I still need to make, I am going to sell my complete circulated sets of Buffalo nickels, Mercury and Roosevelt dimes, Jefferson nickels, Benjamin Halves and a nearly complete set of Indian cents. My plan is to get the keys in each set slabbed and than sell them with the set. I would welcome inquiries on these sets and/or advice on the best place and way to sell these sets. I am torn between just selling the keys and than offering the sets without them, or whether I would do better selling the whole set as one collection? If I go ebay I may use a Buy It Now, or set a reserve just to be safe. Cheers!

Okie, sounds great. Seems Like you have your priorities in order. Wish I could say the same. 2009 was a very good year for me as well, I really got serious into my collection this year and also finished a few sets. I hope we are all blessed in 2010 and are all able to advance in the hobby and are collections. I think here would be a great place for you to start to sell off anything you wish to part with. Everyone on here are a great group of people with a wealth of knowledge and I feel blessed to have found a perfect community to share the joys of the hobby. When it does come time for you to sell, personally I would offer the complete sets up first at a price that you think is fair and you think you could get by selling the keys and the rest separate, if you get no biters then break them up and sell the keys. Selling here you can set a firm price and avoid the fees associated with selling online. I look forward to seeing some of your collection come up for sale, and I will keep an eye out for them. I hope your Peace dollar set and your other upgrades go smoothly in the new year! Cheers!

Sounds like your really planning ahead for coins. You must be young. At my age I no longer plan on doing anything a year ahead. In fact when you get really old you are just happy to plan for tomorrow and/or maybe a week ahead.
I've been collecting coins and other items for well over 60 years now and have absolutely no idea of what I will be doing tomorrow. Just hope to wake up I guess. I know one thing though. As long as there are coin shows, if I can, I will be there.

As my collection is growing toward slightly more expensive coins I'm debating getting a safety deposit box. I don't have anything over the top but I'm getting a little more specific with my collecting.

Well, lets see...

I got back into collecting after a 30 year hiatus.
I cataloged most of my collection using MS Access. Over 1100 records.
I added more coins to my Dansco 7070, 10 left to go.
I updated my Lincolns and Jefferson's to include proofs and am almost complete with them.
Attended my first coin show and coin auction.
Got to know local dealers.
Bought and Sold coins on ebay and here on CCF.

So all in all, it looks like I'm back full throttle. So on to 2010

Thank you for sharing your goals, okie-colin. It sounds like a very good plan. I am sure you will have a very good year.

I will continue working on my 7070 type coins. I also hope to acquire one Fugio and one Washington Piece coins and to complete my Australia silver lunar coins. I might trade my PCGS Morgans for a Bust dollar - small eagle.

I forgot to mention my Lincoln Cent (bank roll search) project with my older son.

Happy New Year.

I hope to finally get finished with my 7070 album this year. I actually have made a few purchases and one was a major one I needed. The rest hopefully will be easier to find since I only have 2 more coins to go. I didn't really accomplish very much in 2009 but maybe this will be the year

Or you could just send them all to me for safe keeping.

Well 2009 was my 1st year back into collecting after having all my coins stolen a few years ago. I spent most of the year in Iraq, but was able to do a little collecting when I got back. I was also able to get all 3 of my kids into collecting as well. For 2010 I want to keep helping the kids with their cent / nickle folders and most likely start working on some dimes with them. For myself I would like to start working on a 20th century type set. I'm not sure if I will use a Dansco 7070 or maybe a PCGS Registry Set.
