here is the list of Morgans this gentleman has I have dealt with them before and these are all PCGS ms63 in their cases. The list is pretty simple below number-mint-years. I have a chance to buy them all for $1800. Advice?

That's a pretty bad deal, the total value is less than $800 IMHO. It's 8 O mints, 9 P mints, and 3 S mints right?

I agree with all of the above. Common stuff for more than double its value.

thank you everyone! And I truly mean that!

Sometimes when those things pop up, and I'm under no pressure because he is in no hurry to sell them, you just got to get some other opinions. And no better place to get them than from the wisdom and experience of the fine people on this website!

Is what I'm going to do, I'll explain to him that I'm tight on money (unfortunately true) and I have to hold off. I'm sure he will call me a little later down the road and at that time the price may come down a little closer to reality.

Again I thank everybody for the quick response and like I said I hope he's not in a hurry and I'll get another chance with a better price.

The one caveat I would add is to make sure none of those coins have the PL/DMPL descriptors or any VAM attributions, that can add significant value and could bring the price more in line with reality.

I'm not sure how to put this but I'm going to give it a shot. If I was a VAM collector I would be willing to pay the going rate for the VAM if it was being sold as a VAM. On the other hand, if it was being sold as a common coin at an exorbitant price I wouldn't try to justify the exorbitant price by identifying a VAM.

No, I didn't mean trying to attribute them yourself. That would probably be a bit difficult if you were not a skilled VAMmer. If PCGS has the attribution on the slab, then the VAM will have nice value because they only attribute Top 100, Hot 50, and Hit List 40 VAMs.

This seller is seriously over valuing, I wouldn't even bother meeting unless he is willing to take a max of $750ish... I highly doubt he comes down this much.

This sounds like a PCGS "Commodity Box" of 20 common date Morgans.

Common, MS slabbed Morgans are bought and sold as commodities. See the link below:

http://www.apmex.com/Product/7163/1...3_PCGS_.aspx

APMEX sells boxes like this for a little over $800. Unless they're VAMs as biokemist noted, the price is WAY out of line.

Another thought, I'd spend the fair price for all these common date morgans ( $700 IMO ) on one semi key date morgan or a common date +- MS 66. You'll be more satisfied in the long run.

007, anytime you are looking at a high quality coin, you can go to Heritage Auctions.com and look at their archives. You will find many examples of current sales in ranging condition to compare to. If you can buy them on Heritage for say $800.00 for your research you have your answer. Best protection I know.

Just look for what Bio said because it there are any PL/DMPL or VAM in the set it will increase the price. If not then avoid the deal $1800 for a set of commons is 2025 prices :)

I don't think that MS-63 common date Morgans are much of a deal right now anyway. I think spending $800 on one rarer certified Morgan would give me more pleasure personally. Perhaps if silver prices drop I would consider picking them up.
