2007 "50 years of S.A.S" silver $1, from Australia. Mintage 10,000 2,500 for V.I.P's at the launch and for S.A.S soldiers and 7,500 for everyone else. The 2,500 were packed in slightly different boxes, but the coin is the same. Steve

Moe, I don't really go all out for high dollar coins .. are you just talking rare as lowest mintage?

Mintage of 4,000. I also have the UNC. version with 7000 minted, it came in a package that said there were only 3,000 packaged that way. I also have #84 of 5000 in: I also have the $5 1999 W gold eagle error coin made from the unpolished dies. No idea how many were made though. Although they all have a low mintage I find it hard to call them rare since you can buy them all on e-bay.

I forgot about Mr. Roman Emperor Trajan (18 September 53 - 8 August 117) I don't know how many they made but it is my only 1900 year old coin. Typical fat guy with his hot girlfriend on the back. Just like me except I'm not on a coin and don't have a hot girlfriend. OK OK, I don't have any girlfriend.

All nice! This is the cool part of this Forum! I get to see some coins I have never seen before. Goldrush58 wrote: Quote: are you just talking rare as lowest mintage? Yes, I was. Do you have a different way to catalog a rare coin? Post it! One more: 1889 3 Cent Nickel (mintage 18,125)

I don't own this one anymore but I think it's the lowest mintage coin that passed through my hands, just 2000 minted.

My rarest world coin is 1996 Macao Year of Rat coin (mintage 5,000). My rarest US coin is 1802 Draped Bust dollar (mintage 41,650). Mine is the narrow date variety, one of 4 varieties reported. I guess if we count the variety, the mintage would be ~12,000. (The price of each variety is similar.) Edited: I just acquired a 1783 Washington Piece - Unity States. It's estimated only 1,000-2,000 minted (Whitman Encyclopedia of colonial coins). I guess there must be less than 1,000 survived today.

Will post a photo later, but my rarest coin has a mintage of 1,000,000. At least it is a tie between my 1921 Peace dollar and my 1909S Barber dime.
