1881-S is a common date Morgan so I wouldn't think someone would take the time to make a counterfeit. The pictures aren't great but nothing is jumping out at me that would lead me to suspect its a fake. From the photos the quality appears to be MS61-MS63. However I personally wouldnt bid on this coin since the photos are poor. There are bound to be plenty of 1881-S Morgans on ebay with good photos and several certified by PCGS or NGC. I would do some more shopping and make sure you get one that has a strong strike and good eye appeal.

Free Shipping, though... If I knew a little more about Morgans, I'd get it for under $2 if possible. Worst of the best cases you have $15 worth of really well-cleaned/polished silver. Worst of the worst cases, you spend two bucks on a fake and can have a fake in-hand to guide some of your future purchases. Those are my Two Cents.

That's a very nice coin that looks 100% to me. The seller is grading it at MS-60, I would say it's at least MS-64. Book value at MS-64 is $65.

It looks authentic to me. A very nice Morgan. with Echizento. I see MS63 grade for this coin. You may not be able to get it with $10 though...

It's hard to see how many hits (contact marks) this coin has, which is often the determining factor in an Unc Morgan. On the plus side - I don't know what's typical for the year/mint but that strike looks very sharp.

As mentioned 81-S is too common to be counterfeited. Looks real and MS-63 or 4. Most importantly good seller feedback and return policy. Go for it!

Quote: ok thanks I only have 10 to spend and I want to spend it well The current melt value of the metals in a Morgan dollar is about $13. You'll be lucky indeed to get any Morgan for $10.

Quote: As mentioned 81-S is too common to be counterfeited. While not too likely, no coin is too common to be counterfeited. We have seen Chinese fake common ASE's and even 1971 Ike dollars. There are fake Sac dollars from Ecuador. When you are counterfeiting coins with a "collector" value of one dollar nothing is too common to fake.

as was already said 1881-S is one of the most common coins of the series in super high grades. I have a MS-67 in my collection and I think the highest one ever graded by PCGS is a MS-69PL. They also are readily available in DMPL on one or both sides like this one
