Anyone know anything about these?

Are they real? Real signatures and real PCGS graded slabs? I was able to find posts on the PCGS message board about them, but I couldn't find anything written by the site itself.

Most of these "signature series" slabs originate with silver dollar dealer and promoter Les Fox. He comes up with and idea, rounds up a few people that have name recognition and pays PCGS in effect a bribe to slab a bunch of coins for him with a special label. He gets his group to sign the labels (although in some cases they are signed with an autopen) and they he sells the slabs as a "Limited edition" for silly money. When the full price sales start to dry up he may group them into sets, or do a few more promotions but eventually they get dumped for what ever they will bring and then on the aftermarket they fall to whatever the generic coin in the slab is worth.

For the vast majority of cases, "buy the coin, not the slab" is true but I have purchased strictly for the slab on a few occasions. Most notable are my Redfield Hoard Morgan dollar and New York and Rhode Island proof quarters in ICG slabs autographed by the designer, Daniel Carr. For the PCGS Signature Series, the selling point is the autographed label, not the Silver Eagle.

I do not know if you consider it "buying the slab" but I was looking to get MS69's in general. I thought that maybe I would start putting a set together or something. I had never seen these "signed" versions before today. I did stay awary from the "obama" ones though. When I was younger I used to collect autographs so these struck me as a crossover collectable. I didn't know if they were legit though.

It stinks that some might be autopens. What's the point in those cases?
