I have a silver certificate missing a serial number. Is this a rarity or something common I have missed?

What year it it? I know for some of the older ones they didn't put the full serial on if it was lower than 8 digits. For example 0000 1234 would have been 1234.

Post a photo here and let us examine it. It may be an error note.

I have heard of people "bleaching" (for lack of better word) the notes to remove part of the notes to make fake errors on notes. I think you can also just use a pencil eraser to do it also but a picture should be sufficient to able to tell if it is a real error or one that was man made

Quote: I have a silver certificate missing a serial number. Is this a rarity or something common I have missed? Banknotes are 'easy' to scan. A scan is 'easy' to upload onto this site. Vague descriptions attatched to questions are very difficult to answer. A picture would tell everyone if you are talking about a missing digit, or an entire set of numbers on one side of the note, or no numbers at all, or if it is a note that only has seven or less digits in the serial number or whatever else a person could interpret a missing serial number to mean. Your description could mean all sorts of things. Please help 'us' out.

These are the pix of the front and back of the $1 FRN without a serial number. Sorry, it is not a silver certificate. Faulty memory.

Hurry Nancy, I am turning blue from holding my breath.
By the way, I do sincerely apologize to you if I sounded rude or demeaning in my last post. I have a habit of saying things that I soon regret.

Make sure the picture has a different file name or else it will write over the original

The picture isn't super clear, and unfortunately we cant zoom in by clicking on it, but the area by the "ONE" where the green seal would be looks tampered with to me. Hard to say for sure, but something doesn't look right about it, and it looks like there might be a small hint of green on the bottom left of the N in "ONE".

I do see what coinhunter is saying. That hint of what appears to be green could be just about anything though.
I do notice that the reverse printing as well as the underprinting on the face both seem a bit faded, as though the note has been through a washing machine. This is not to say that the green overprint has washed off in the washer; that isn't going to happen.
The press used for this series of note applied the green overprint to the serial numbers and seal in two separate steps, so notes can be found missing just the seal or just the serial numbers or both (as is the case here).
I believe, based on what I can make out from the pictures, that the note is a genuine error. Unfortunately, it is not all that uncommon as far as printing errors go, and considering the condition of the note, I doubt that a huge premium could be applied.
I know that you tried real hard to get the pictures to us Nancy, and now all we are doing is complaining about their quality, but might I ask, are these photos from a camera or are they scans?
If from a scanner, we might be able to suggest simple things to improve the quality of the uploaded pictures.
