First, are you talking about seeking examples Today, ?
Yes. From what I see available at coin shows, those in OGP are frosted or have started to frost enough to affect their appearance. I would not call them gem.
Quote:
If so, I would say, Depends on Who's Selling the sets in OGP, No ?
Could be. If there are GEM Ikes in OGP, they are not on the market as far as I can tell. Not saying they do not exist, just that I do not see them.
Quote:
Secondly, You really believe the GEMS have been cracked out and slabbed by now ?
I did say
most, not all. It is the
some that I am not seeing.
I believe that anyone who wants to sell one would probably be convinced by the mob to get it slabbed first. Consider the sheer volume of people who come here asking of almost every coin, "Is this worth sending in to be graded?" They are told "no," but in the case of a GEM Ike, the honest answer is "maybe" and they all hear "yes."
Quote:
What about people who do Not slab these and have them ALL in the OGP? We are Many.!!!! No ?
Possibly. I know of at least one now.

But as far as I know, you are not selling, so it is a moot point. And even if you are, that would satisfy the "some" left when I said "I would have to believe
most of the gems have been cracked and slabbed by now."

What about the Old time collectors that are and Have been Selling Off their Sweet OGP Sets !!!! IMO, They are Out Here !!!
Sure, and if they are not slabbing before they sold them, then perhaps the buyers are slabbing them to flip. So maybe a GEM OGP is briefly on the market.

I , like many, collected These sets Long, Long Ago, The Known populations are Very mis-leading, to say the least. I mean There are Plenty of us out there that have These in Pristine, Brilliant uncirculated, and or Ultra Cameo Proofs, Just Not Slabbed..
That is impressive and I would love to see them here! Hint! Hint!

Quote:
Are your examples All Slabbed ?
No, but they are not in their OGP either.
I have two Ike sets.
There is my original set in the Dansco album which I completed thirty years ago. The four "brown Ikes" were cracked from their OGP and placed into the album. All four of them are frosty. I did not know better back then, nor did I have the budget for the nice stuff anyway.

My second set is graded PCGS. I bought them all that way, so I never saw the brown boxes from the four silver proof Ikes. However, they are all deep cameo.
