As for coins, I like starting out with dimes. I have had more luck with CR (customer rolled) amounts, but
from what I read the odds are about the same.

I do not know the latitude where you are located at within Canada but it would seem prudent to focus your efforts within a reasonable distance of the 49th parallel

This 49th parallel guideline looses its relevance, however, the farther east one travels past Buffalo Point, MB, Canada etc.

This term ‘49th parallel' is actually the east-west traversing latitudinal line that best denotes a substantially large distance of the border line between the US and Canada:

The Canadian banks, laundromats, and smaller size grocery stores, for example, near this line must have tons of yet-to-be-identified silver US coins accumulated from both US and Canadian citizens entering and exiting the 50 states.

And it would seem to me to be highly probable that this target area could potentially be an extremely fertile hunting ground for you to justify making multiple trips to even if you are located way up north of this border in Canada.

I would bet my bottom dollar that a great majority of non-coin-collecting Canadian citizens would have no idea nor even express an interest to research what specific 'US non-Canadian' coins contain valuable silver content.

however just to get this topic going, I went through my collection yesterday (i store em in boxes, I went through my scanvenged box) and I did find a silver coin I got in change when I was down in florida, its a roosie, however its ironic that bout half of it is white and bout EF maybe and the other half is near mutiliated.............. :<, I coulden't read the date, I could only tell if it was silver or not by the rim/edge

ran by the bank today and was only able to get $30 in CWR's, found a very nice 1964 silver dime

did $400 in dimes today and found 2 silver !
Au-1955 key date of the silver dimes (nice upgrade)and a always welcome 1964d.

i also scored 2 64's today lately all I have been finding are 1964's ill take it all day and night of course

My last dime bag was a skunk too. Since I'm like you and can usually rely on at least one silver, a dime skunk is very disappointing. I mean a bag of quarters or halves, I don't expect to find any silver so you are not too surprised when you don't, but yeah a dime skunk can put a damper on your evening.

Talking about skunks ... Yesterday I did 2x boxes and $300 in cwr's and not a single silver , what a nightmare !
