I am starting to have real doubts about continuing in this hobby. Two weeks ago I posted about an experience I had happen to me (someone followed me from the bank to my office and broke into my car and stole my conceal carry handgun from the glove box). I have been being very cautious since then and make sure I am aware of anyone following me and making sure nothing is left in my car. Today I went to my favorite bank and the teller saves all CWR's of dimes for me, I picked up $800 in CWR's of dimes and $50 in CWR's of half dollars. I put all the rolls into a large canvas bank bag and headed home to search. I pulled out of the parking lot of the bank and then got onto the toll way, about a mile later I realized I had a flat tire and exited the toll road and pulled into a discount tire to get the tire fixed. After going through all the paperwork I was told it would be about an hour until my car would be ready so I walked to the Wal-mart next door to kill a little time. I returned around 45 minutes later and my car was soon ready. When I got back into my car I realized that someone had gone through my car and the bank bag was missing and so was the $850 in coins. I through a fix and raised heck with the manager of the discount tire and one of the workers said he had found a roll of dimes on the ground next to my car when he went to pull it into the shop for the repair. I think that I might have been followed from the bank again and they might have even done something to my car tire to make sure I didn't go far after leaving the bank. I know some of you might say that I should switch banks and I will after this. Yes the bank I go to is in the ghetto but I have found that I find the most silver at that branch so that is why I go there. I have lost a $1,000 handgun, had to replace a $200 window and lost $850 in coins in a two week span all for this hobby, I just don't know if it is worth it anymore. The real kicker is that I am anal about making sure my car is always locked, but the guy behind the counter had to go to my car and get info like mileage and previous paperwork from the glove box and he had possession of my car keys and most likely did not lock the car doors. This also happened in broad daylight right in front of the en trance to a very busy discount tire location. Had the employee locked the doors I really doubt the thief(s) would have risked getting caught by breaking into the car. I filed a police report and plan on calling the head office for discount but seriously doubt that anything will come of this even though they technical had possession of the car, the keys and were responsible for leaving it unlocked. Sorry for the rant but I really needed to vent! Edited by bbradford71

Bbrad, if it weren't for bad luck, you'd have no luck at all! I'm not going to say what you should have or I would have done. Personally, I think after all that's happened to you, I would seriously consider giving it up.
Regarding newcomers to the dime roll link, please take the time to look at least a few previous posts...seems like the same questions every 10 rounds, "which is better, String or Brinks, cwr or mwr", etc, etc, unbelievable! Thanks, rant over.

Maybe the knuckleheads at discount tire took your dimes....they were the only ones with your keys...makes ya go hmmmm...  |

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes. Takes a lot of silver to cover that kind of loss, not to mention to feeling of privacy violation.
I'm afraid in these times, stuff like this will get worse.

I'm afraid in these times, stuff like this will get worse. Yes we are in sad times, the economy is in the tank and companies are only hiring the cream of the crop which leaves many that have no real education or skills to offer without much hope. Things are even worse here in Houston than in many places as we have a lot of New Orleans transplants from the hurricane and our crime rate went through the roof since then and has not gone down any. I was talking with a few people last night at the bar and grill I eat dinner at and one of them actually had the nerve to say that they didn't blame people for stealing from people who make a lot of money (which I am not one of) because we are not paying our fair share of taxes and these people have no other option to survive. If it had not been a woman I would have hit her square in the jaw and knocked her off that bar stool. I really do not know what disgusts me more a piece of dog poo who would rather steal from hard working people rather than getting a job or someone who appears to be educated thinking that they are justified in doing so. |

In either case, they think the government should do more... which is a bad path to be going down. I hope we're not too far down that path to right the ship. The more you give people, the more they expect. And the money has to come from somewhere... the government. Where do you think they get it from? Mostly unwilling taxpayers. Why are they unwilling? Because they see the funds misspent on giving people handouts which don't deserve or appreciate them. To get back on topic, I have something like 7 boxes of dimes I edge searched which I am not looking forward to dumping. I guess I'll unwrap them and put them in the coin counter. |

I personally like the CWR's for searching myself. First off I have found that I find on average 1 silver dime for every $200 in CWR's of dimes searched, I have searched 5 boxes of dimes and not found a single silver dime. I also like being able to pour the dimes into my hand, rim search and then pour them right back into the wrapper and on to the next roll. This makes it very easy to take them to my dump bank and deposit them into my account.

Picked up $60 in CWR and $60 in Fed rolled. Fed gave me a '64 rosie. That was a first for me.

with you again ?! you must be very carefull now on because you know when we are in bad luck strake things can get ugly sometimes . I hope you overcome all this !
after 3x boxes skunk plus over $500 in cwr's with no luck I did a good box today
60d,63,63d,64d and a vf 43d mercury that made me nervous as it came out of the roll reverse up with that D mm staring at me lol !
