Great find on the seated liberty! You know what the chances of finding a SLD roll hunting is? It's like 1:10000000. I beleive you are the second person in this thread to find one.

One box today... nothing. Hard to believe I got a silver on my first roll ever, and nothing since.

Question for dime roll searchers. I just got a box (first time for dimes) and they are all wrapped in clear tubes. I can see there are not any silver ones since the clad sandwich is pretty obvious. If this happens to you, do you still open the roll or just put it back in the box unopened to cash back in?

skyshark124,
I always open them, for a few reasons.

-silver can be easy to miss in dimes since they are so small. I have missed several and only knew I missed them because of the sound they make when you dump them on the pile.
-You might find an error coin or something else that wouldnt be evident from the edges.
-my banks wouldnt take rolled coins anyway.

Yeah, clad sandwiches can be tricky with dimes. Its one of the reasons people can still find silver in dimes. Its simply harder to tell.

When I do dimes, I pinch several coins between my thumb and index and focus on the the edges of just those coins. Like bay singer, I had also missed some when searching the entire edge at one time. Unlike bay, I don't search each coin. I glance at the pile for major errors after I edge search, but I don't look at each year/mintmark.

It's all preference, but the bottom line is your eyes will get tricked if you look at all the edges at once. And I'm a young guy with 20/20.

My bank WANTS them returned rolled, so I either wouldn't open it or I would open it and re-roll it. I think I agree though that I should check the rolls just to be sure. Besides, a Canadian dime could be hidden in there, right? :)

A Canadian dime will have a completely silver edge, I have seen a silver edge and thought silver! But turns out its a Canadian clad. Also when I search dimes I look for '82 no 'P' mint mark and the '96 'W' mint mark. Both pretty uncommon but you never know!

Broseph,
When I do dimes I don't look at each coin. Dimes get way too tedious doing that.
I do with cents and nickels though because you have to, and depending on my mood, I will go through half dollars individually.
Even without looking at them individually though you could still catch something you would have missed by just edge searching through the roll.
