Poll Question
I just started my 7070 album. I did not realize how much pressure it would put me under. I find myself saying...Sorry worn out large cent you are not worthy to grace the page of my album. I want the album to become the crown jewel of my collection. So I am torn with the following decision: Do I cut open my 1964 Proof set for the thru 64 holes Roosevelt, Washington, Kennedy, and maybe even the Jefferson nickel. Or do I find the nicest toned silver for the 3 above and a proof for the Jefferson nickel. I know it is a personal decision, but I like both ideas, so I wanted to see if anyone wanted to way in with an argument for one or the other. Results

If you cut open the proof set you can watch it tone in the album over the years. Take a photo every year. Like a time lapse movie we used to watch in school.

Some people don't allow proofs in their 7070, because they weren't' meant for circulation. I have allowed them, my State Quarter is a Minnesota Silver Proof. It's really up to you.

All coins are worthy for your 7070! You can always upgrade later - there's nothing wrong an old friend filling a hole until a later time.
As for the proofs, I do have some proofs in my 7070, but I would use business strikes for the nickel, dime, and quarter - just because there are a lot of coins on those pages and the proofs kinda stand out which I don't care for.
On the modern half dollar section, I did go with a BU Walker, and proof Franklin, Kennedy Silver and Kennedy Clad and it works for me. Same with the moderns page. MS/BU and proofs work pretty well together I think.
It's really all what will please you, though. It's your 7070 and there's all kinds of ways to put it together successfully. I'd try to not feel pressured - take your time and relax and let it come together over time.
Best regards, Ken

I cut up a 62 for my nickel, quarter and half and a 64 for the half,Lincoln and dime but these were duplicate proof sets I had. I also cut up a 3 coin Bicentennial Uncirculated Silver set for those 3 holes. I have been thinking about removing all the proof coins and replacing them with Uncirculated versions but I don't see anything wrong with placing proof coins in the album if thats what you want to do

You can always put in what ever you decide to put in. For me BU/Circ coins hold up better in the Dansco albums. For me I tried to find a theme for why I picked certain dates. I picked coins from the years my family members were born. Those are a 1961 Franklin year my wife was born, 1935 Peace dollar for my mother and a 1932 S quarter for my father. For holes that those would not fit in that catagory I choose some historical events .. like 1883 the year my great great grandfather came to America. Other coins I choose because I had, or could get cheap key date coins for that hole. Like 1996 W dime, 1950 D nickle and 1970 D half. As for your question, toned or not toned. I would suggest going to a coin shop or show and look at both coins, at the same time, and see which one calls out to you.

I'd vote neither.
Unless you're trying to collect proofs I'd only use unc coins in albums. If you want to add proofs to it then go ahead and cut the set. It's never going to have more than a 50% set premium probably. If it bothers you buy a second set to hang on to.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Why not just buy another proof set and bust that one up?

I just cut my 1964 proof set open and filled the holes of my 7070. I love to proof for the type set; Common on, it is a type set. I don't understand some people not allow proof in the 7070. If I can afford, I would but all proofes for the 7070.

I have couple proofs in my album already. The bicentennial set I had was proof, and they look pretty good. I also have a proof SBA on that page. Since that page includes the Silver Eagle and a Commemorative silver of my choice, I think the proofs will match well on that page. I have no problem cutting it up. I don't collect proof sets, just happened to pick a couple up in my dealings. Just not sure if I would be better off picking some nice BU coin for the 1964 Half hole and sell the proof set to use that $12-$15 to pick up another coin for the album. The proofs do look good though Poll is closed, and thanks alot you were no help
