I'm very pleased with this purchase. That mark on the shield...wasn't there at all. It has some light abrasion, but 80 percent of the mint luster is extant on this one. Definitely been dipped at some point, but developing some peripheral toning.

What'cha think? These photos aren't enhanced in any way.

Wow! I am blown away!

It looks like you went back in a time machine to the mint and grabbed this right after minting!

It's amazing to see how beautiful these coins are when they're "new" like this!

Nobody ever expressed an opinion as to grade where this one is concerned. I was discussing this coin with the seated specialists, who helped me attribute it as WB-102 which has a are rating of 2+...and in mint state 7+, and one individual there offered his estimate of grade. Anybody want to see how they do against the opinion of DGS? This is going to be submitted in the next couple weeks with a few other coins, and I'm going to go the "signature series" route with it since their "in house" expert is Bill Bugert, one of the authors of the "Complete Guide to Seated Liberty half dollars".

Any 1843 is quite difficult in Mint State. Heritage has offered only 6 Uncirculated examples in the last 4 years. If this one slabs (depending on what they think of the dip), it should go MS63 and join a group of no more than 50 at or above that grade level. Hello, $1000 coin.
