hmm, this one is a tough one. The lamp you are using is (I am guessing here) a regular light bulb which is causing the coin to look goldish and its kind of throwing me off on this one. I am going to go out on a limb here and say MS-64 and it may go down a grade or two from that because of the weakness around the ear on the hair on this one (which unlike the O morgans isn't general practice for P minted coins). But dont get discouraged because of my grade because I could be way off on this one, I will let superdave, metalman, morganman help out with this one because they are alot better at spotting certain things that I overlook. But it could be a weak strike because I dont see any wear anywhere else besides right there over the ear so I guess I will just have to hide and watch to see what they say when they chime in

Actually,I believe the 1887P was a weakly struck coin for the most part. Which is unusual for most Philly minted Morgans,1887 being an exception. There are some contact marks on the reverse above the left wing and on the face of the obverse.I would say MS63/64. I would like to hear what Morganfred has to say.

Yup I agree, there is weakness in the hair which won't bring the grade down that much.No lower than MS63 IMO.

The lighting makes the coin appear polished - assuming that's a photographic artifact, I might get on board with a weak 64. More likely 63. Grading from a photo is tough, even when they're this clear.
