This is the third in my string of coin Drought Relief purchases (which include https://goccf.com/t/61959 and https://goccf.com/t/61643).

This coin was obtained through Bill Shamhart. I absolutely love this little jewel. I'm pretty sure it would CAC (what do you guys think?). I don't see a single hairline on the surface. There is a small lint mark and very tiny "pitting" (which I think is mint-made) at the top obverse that is only seen under magnification. The black spot is on the holder.

Very, very nice. Condition looks amazing, one of the best I've seen of that series in my limited exposure.

I recently began a journey to collect 1 of each denomination from 1868 in VF and up, as it is 100 years before I was born. I've only made 1 purchase so far, an AU 2 cent piece. I hope to make a couple more soon, possibly one of the harder finds such as the 3 cent or Seated quarter. I guess it depends on what I find first when I have the cash on me.

Prethen,

What a nice 3 cent trime. I love it. I am not familiar with the term "drought relief". Could you expand on that term.

Thanks

Jim, that term was explained in one of the links that I put at the top of the thread where I haven't bought more than 2 coins in 2 years up until a couple of weeks ago. Hence...my coin buying drought is over. Then again, I guess it could start anew if I can't find anything again. But, I'm seeing some more interesting material from various dealers pop up, so I might be making some more purchases coming up.

It's gorgeous, and I can see no reason why CAC wouldn't sticker it at PR65. Are you axially-lighting these pics? The color is excellent.

Axial lighting uses a piece of glass (mine is a special reflective 30/70 glass) at an angle (mine's at 45 degrees) where the coin resides under. The light is set to go through the wide angle/mouth part of the glass so that the light can reflect down evenly on the coin/holder.

Also, keep in mind that the resulting picture usually has to be adjusted (I use Photoshop Elements 8) to give it what the coin looks like to an observer given similar lighting conditions. I usually only adjust the lighting levels and sharpness.
