Who's waiting for May-27-2010 to purchase the silver quarter set I think I'm going to stock up on the 1st & 3rd set 2010&2012 and try to make a profit on them seeing that the 99-01 silver proof State Quarter sets are worth alot of money I sure dont want to kick myself later for not doing so what do you guys think will there be a huge premium to be made on them ?

I do no not think this series will repeat the "financial success" of the Statehood Quarters. I could be wrong.

It does not matter to me. I am not in it for profit, but I am in it for the money... bad pun intended.

I will wait to get the full 2010 silver proof set.

If that were an original idea, I'd say that you sure had a winner but unfortunately, there are thousands of others who are thinking about doing the same thing. I'm sure in 10 years, you might do ok but now that you just told your plan to the entire forum and the rest of the world, you can only expect more intense competition.

The real key to flipping these things will be buying the unc rolls from the mint and then reselling P&D pairs to the general public. These coins will not circulate for years so you have a captive audience who want to collect them but wont be able to find them at their bank.

I think that has a better income potential that playing the silver quarter roulette. but good luck with both or either.

The State Qtr. thing was several things.....all of them fairly original. It caught folks by surprise.....it was HUGE ! ....it was "new"....and it just sort of "turned a light on in a dark room" for about 150 million Americans.....
Now though.....there is no surprise....there won't be that many "new" people brought in to the hobby by the "Parks" Qtrs....if any really, because of the economic depression and jobless rates going on.
And the Mint generally "over-produces" and "over-prices" so many things nowadays...
I just agree that I doubt it will attain the "monster proportions" that the State Qtr. series did.

And I do agree about the "Two Roll Sets" of the Parks Qtrs. too....the Biz. strikes will be difficult for EVERYBODY to acquire !
And all of these State Qtr. folks who want to "continue on" with their albums in the new State Parks series.....won't be able to do so as easily as before.
At the end of the 11 year run of the Parks Qtrs., ("if" it actually ends there) if one had all BU P's & D's....Satin Finish, Proofs, and Silver Proofs......you'd have a nice complete Set indeed that would have some "value".....because MANY people will not have BU examples of their business strikes...(especially if they are all generally "low mintage" biz strikes)..therefore the "extra" value would be there and it would be coveted and envied. IMHO.

Lawd !
I forgot those Satins ! ....
Thanks for reminding me JB ! (correction noted above)

MERCY ! That will indeed be a monster Set.......WHEW !!

But I couldn't imagine buying ALL OF THE TWO ROLL SETS AT A PREMIUM FOR AT LEAST 11 YEARS TO GET THOSE BU BIZ. STRIKES !!

And the prices for all of this stuff from the Mint will keep going up every so often too ! ......

I do not think the Parks quarters will that big of a success. Most of the Statehood Quarter "collectors" (and Prez dollars also) Just have them hoarded up in a big jar for their grand kids to inherit "because they are gonna be worth a lot of money some day" or so the wisdom goes. A few have bought the map to place them in, but as far as I am concerned if they will not be circulating these people will have no interest at all in them. I could be wrong, ordinary people were paying .50-.75 cent each for the 2009 Lincolns so who knows. Maybe I'll get a set and, put them into 2x2's and see if the wife can sell them at the hardware store for $2.00 a set.

For that reason I would probably go moderate on the 2010 set and then monitor how the prices go. If they tank or stay low, then I would consider stocking up on the 2011 and 2013 sets. There are probably a LOT of people who remember the 1999 and 2001 run ups and they are hoping for history to repeat itself. So they will buy up a bunch of the 2010 sets. This will result in a glut on the marketand poor price performance. THEN history will repeat itself and everyone stays away from the "loser" sets in 2011. (Just as they did after the 2000 sets tanked after they were overbought by people hoping for a repeat of 1999.) The 2011 sets do well, eveyone jumps back on board in 2012, the set tanks and fewer people buy the 2013 set. After that it evens out.

I'll probably end up buying a P-mint bag of each this year.

I'll trade P's for D's, set some aside and ebay some others.

As for the silver set - I'll probably buy that too, but only 1.

I don't expect to see some crazy runup of prices, but who really knows?

I think ( as stated above ), I will await the proof and silver proof sets and obtain them. I always collect these and they will come with this series also....
I too have collected the State Quarters collection, 2-3 rolls of bank or vendor wrapped rolls for the entire series, I know the approx 1500.00 face price is one thing, Very heavy.
I also did the mint wrapped Presidential dollar rolls, and after the 7th or 8th president, I stopped. I believe the presidential series is about worthless, just my opinion....also another Very heavy box in the vault!

I'm glad I got out "early" in that series too ! But I still put a few BU's in some folders and keep a Nephew and future step-daughter up to date with them.
I'm also going to put a Proof Presidential album together....
Are you doing any of that Mike ? Or have you COMPLETELY stopped with the Presidents altogether ?

All
I just signed up and bought 2 of the Hot Springs National Park Quarter sets. I will be buying each set for now
I will also be starting 2 albums, a BU and a silver Proof album set
My question is:
Why does the US Mint add the "S" mark to a clad set, the proof set
and the Silver Proof set. How are you to tell the differance besides
listening the the silver Clang when droped?

I think only the Silver proof set should nave the "S" mark
Thoughts?

The "Clad Sets" are the Uncirculated Satin Finish Sets. One has a P mint from being minted in Philly and one has a D from being minted in Denver.

The Proof and Silver Proof Sets are "S" mints because they're minted in San Fransico.
If it's hard for you to "tell the difference" without "hearing the Silver clang" ! (OH MY GOSH ! ... PLEASE DON'T DO THAT WITH PROOF OR SILVER PROOF COINS ! ).... ....Then you can just weigh them ! (But you can tell the difference between them by sight, if you compare the two side by side)(if not, you'll know when you bust em' out of the Sets they were in !)

LOL
I was kidding about the silver clang...
You do know what I meant though, the proof and silver Proof both have the "S" and I say
only have the "S" for the silver proof even though both fron San Fran so it is indeed unique

I have not seen them side by side but if you say you can tell then OK...
thanks

The clad sets had the S on them long before the silver sets ever came along. They have a better claim to the mintmark.

If you can't tell the silver from the clad on sight, and you cant see the edge of the coin, use the tissue test. Place a single layer of tissue paper over them. A silver coin will look white through the tissue, a clad coin is a dull gray.
