So I am finally able to get back online after my dog bit through my power cord and had to purchase a new cord. So in the process of checking emails and updates from around the web I saw that my Hot Springs 2 roll set is on back order and will not ship until May.
The main reason this bugs me is that I saw Mike Mezack on one of the shopping channels this morning and, not only did he have the Hot Springs Quarters in hand, but he has had them long enough to do the gold plating, the hologram, and the full color versions as well.
The official release is in 3 days. My 2 roll set is back ordered. But another item up for sale was the 2 roll set! And Guess What... HE HAD OVER 2000 OF THEM!
So my question is: WHY ON GOD'S GREEN DOES HE GET SPECIAL TREATMENT FROM THE MINT?

The same thing goes for currency. Some dealers are able to get these serial# 1's because of money and connections.

If you buy thousands upon thousands of rolls from them you may get special treatment too. Remember, that isn't the first nor the last purchase they made from the mint, so it goes beyond just these specific coins. I'm sure the mint is making millions of dollars off of them compared to a few bucks off the little guy!

did you mean my dog?
He got a few electrical burns on his mouth and nose, the vet said he will be fine. He is healing really well but he is having problems eating his normal food (dry) so he is a happy puppy right now because he gets high protein/ high fat super mushy wet dog food until he is all healed up. We go back on Tuesday to get his stitches out. He was really lucky though, he got the cord before the transformer so he bit into the full 120 volt current. When he jerked up my cord pulled out of the wall so ... really lucky.
The vet told me that pets tend to go after cords because when the first get them (before they get a mouth full of lightning) it tingles and feels good, so they bite harder

"my dog bit through my power cord and had to purchase a new cord"... wish I could get my dog to buy replacements for things she destroys. My mother once had a house-trained rabbit that had a penchant for power cords. The worst to repair were phone connections with about 12 fine wires (it cost if you called out the telephone co.) Glad to hear he's on the road to recovery and hopefully learned his lesson.

I love him, he is the best dog I've ever had.. but he doesn't exactly live up to his name sake..(Nikola) I hope he learned his lesson too. But I doubt it. For now, I've put braided aluminum wire looms around all of my exposed cords.

Actually I think he does live up to his namesake (if it's Tesla you're refering to). I'm pretty sure he must have had a few shocks in his time.

Yeah, but I was referring more to learning from his mistakes.

Just to bring it back to a tenuous numismatic link... Tesla features on a lot of banknotes and here's my favourite (not sure if it refers to dinara or the voltages he used to play around with).

Its all about buying right and often ... I know in my business, I can affect the suppliers (timing, pricing etc.) if necessary due to a long standing relationship.

Are you sure he had them IN HAND? Did they do close ups so you could actually see and identify the coin? Often the TV shows will create "mock ups" of just released items that they don't actually have in hand yet. I've seen many times in January the shows will be showing the Early Release ASE the same day they are being released, but when you look carefully in their close ups the date on the holder is the current year, but the coin in the holder is the previous years. They just photoshopped a label, cracked open a slab, inserted the new label and glued it back together.

Quote: Conder101: Often the TV shows will create "mock ups" I would bet that's the case for HSN (you know how they are!), but it's not impossible for a coin to get out before its release date. I received two William Henry Harrison-D Dollars in my Light Rail Change on Sunday, February 15th, 2009. Their release date was Thursday, Feb. 19th, 2009. I showed the two Dollars to the owner of a coin shop (and three of his employees) on Tuesday, Feb. 17th, 2009. I still have those two Dollars, separate in their own flips. They look the same as the BU Harrison-D Dollars that I bought at the Denver Mint on Friday, Feb. 20th, 2009. A better question is how a large quantity of BU 2009-P Native American Dollars showed up Denver's Light Rail change dispensers in the summer of last year. I got over a dozen, several of my co-workers got one or more, and I also bought some out of local businesses' cash drawers. The odds of a few individuals getting all of these from one or two 'dumps' of searched Direct Ship boxes would seem to be pretty low. (particularly when there is a steady demand for new BU 'P' coins of any type at our local dealers!)
