Hello Folks -

I received a collection of coins from my grandfather, mostly from his travels during WWII. I have one that I cannot identify for the life of me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot for in the assistance! I didn't know where to begin.

Yikes, I had no idea anything in this pile was that old. Most are from the 20th century. Is this particularly valuable or common and just old? I guess it could be a reproduction, also? Don't know if anyone reproduced or faked these at some point.

Reproductions of these "reyes catolicos" coins are certainly made, given their significance to early American colonial history. They're often sold as replica "pirate coins".

here's an old thread with a replica, with links to even older threads in my first post there.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar enough with the originals to say whether yours is a replica or not. If it is, it's a better quality replica than some on the coins posted in the older threads. If you can provide a weight and/or diameter, that would help identify the denomination and possibly authenticity.

It looks nearly identical to the one in this thread: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...PIC_ID=24305

Weight is .006 - .007 kg = .21 - 0.25 oz
Diameter is 25mm

Here are the best edge shots I could get. I can't tell if it has a seam or is just worn down - it's not consistent, definitely not like the one in the pic that has the obvious seem.

Also looks very much like the first one at the bottom of this page under "CECA DE TOLEDO"
http://www.maravedis.org/rrcc_1realpag.html

That seems to have the same strange "C" marking next to the arrows?

Thanks all! I had a feeling that was the case after reading the other posts about this style of coin. I imagine he picked it up as a visitor somewhere in his travels in the 40s or 50s.
