how focused are we talking, I'm not sure if I can get a picture close enough and focused enough to even show a date or mint mark.. I don't think it would be very easy to grade a photo like that? Lol.. I'm using a cell phone camera, that actually performs better than the point and shoot camera I have when it comes to close focusing distances..

If you have a point and shoot digital camera, make sure the macro setting is on and it should work well. I'm not sure about a cell phone, but there have been some decent photos posted from cell's. Go ahead and post the best pics you can. If they are bad, then it will just be good practice..:-)

The mint mark doesn't have to show very big in the picture...a ballpark grade on a circulated coin can be determined by reading between the lines, so to speak. I'd bet a bag of donuts the point-and-shoot will take a better picture of the coin, once you know how far away to place the camera and how to get light on the coin. If the macro mode doesn't work well, back the camera up a bit, *don't* zoom in, and crop the result, and see what you get. Check this out for some pointers:

ok, yeah I was being stupid, the P&S does give me a lot better pictures.. I just had to actually try a bit instead of getting fed up and throwing it against the wall.. if I sell any of these coins it's going towards a new camera by the way ;).
I laid out most of the ones I think are key dates on a white piece of paper and took some shots, when cropped the shots probably have a sufficient amount of detail for you guys to give me an idea, I just gotta sort through the 50 or so shots I took and crop them up for you guys..

Actually, that is pretty decent if you could just get them a little bit bigger. Is that the 21-d? That look looks well within the fine range. Nice! It looks possibly cleaned, but that also could just be from lighting glare.

I'll try to get them a little bit bigger...i sure hope it isn't cleaned =(. What makes you think that, I read somewhere that vertical or horizontal lines mean it's likely cleaned, but I don't see those? For what it's worth I did use a flash in both pictures, and lighting wasn't ideal for photography..
Yes, that is the 1921-D.. for some reason I named the photo 1938-D? lol.. but that's the 1921 D

That's a pretty good picture! The reverse looks VF to me. If it has been cleaned, it was more likely dipped, and not that bad. The only reason I state it as a possibility is that the coin tends to look a bit "shiny", where as an original F/VF would look dull and gray. Sometimes glare makes it look that way, and I'm not sure one way or another. Even if cleaned, as long as it is genuine, I would say it's at least a $400 coin.

I obviously have no idea if it's been cleaned, but what I can tell you is that it's not that "shiny" that's just the picture.. probably a reflection of the flash because I took the picture head on with the flash looking right down at the coin. In reality it looks much more "dull and gray" like you said it should.
I'll get up a better picture of the obverse too, so we can try to throw some definite grades on it..

here's what should be a little better picture of the obverse.. did I get my first ever coin grade try right when I guessed this coin was somewhere between F and VF? If that's the case, I seem to have stumbled on a coin worth a substantial amount of money? According to a price chart I just looked up that is.. lol

so I've got pictures of a whole bunch of others now too, should I post those here? I've got them of some Mercury dimes, some more walking liberty, that 1927-s SLQ, and a 1924 Peace dollar..
