Not the satin finish ones, the regular coins minted for public use are hitting the market. Yesterday, my ebay search brought up three listings. Two buy it nows for about 12 bucks plus per coin and an auction for a roll at about $45 bucks and rising. Me, nope, I won't be buying anything like that. I'd rather have an XF or AU for my set before I buy one at those prices.

That's crazy prices .. I might pay $10 for a roll .. as a gamble .. but I could be wrong ..
Does anyone know for sure how many business strikes were minted? (for 2009 nickels and I guess dimes)

The numbers reported for 2009 Jefferson nickels are now 39.84 million for Philadelphia and 46.80 million for Denver. The numbers for the 2009 Roosevelt dimes are now 96.50 million for Philadelphia and 49.50 million for Denver. I have heard rumors that the 2010 nickels will be considerably even lower mintages with none minted so far. The P and D 2010 dimes are sitting at about 19 million each so far.

Indeed ..... my local dealer (Maryland) has a few 2009-D at $5 each ...... I took a pass knowing that eventually one will come my way.

Ack !I was just thinking how nice it would be if there were no such thing as " Satin Finish"....... Like the "old days" when one could score a low mintage biz. strike coin from " A SET" !! .....

I am going to remain optimistic. In over thirty years, the only times that I have needed to crack a mint set to fill a hole was to get the NIFC coins (e.g., the 1973 Eisenhower dollars). Yes, things have gotten a little iffy, but I am confident that I will eventually find all of the 2009 and 2010 coins for my albums.

I would like to share in your "optimism".....but, these days, the "condition" of the coin by the time it finds my pocket, is often in pretty sad shape........put a "low mintage" on that coin too....plus finding "both" mints if it's indeed a "hard to find low mintage.

We will just have to continue out P&D exchange, even if it means waiting until 2013 to get the 2010 coins!

Quote: That's crazy prices I was surprised they were that LOW! When the first 2009 P nickels came out last year they started out going for over $100 PER COIN! My personal opinion on these coins? The 1959 P nickel had a mintage only 75% of that of the 2009 nickels (either P or D). These were not specifically sought out and hoarded. Today FIFTY years later a roll of the "rare" 1959 nickels is worth what? $12? Less? What will these HIGHER mintage coins which are being actively sought out and hoarded be worth in fifty years? My guess is not enough to make hoarding them worthwhile. The 1959 has barely kept up with inflation. It would not surprise me if in the long run the 2009's do not.
