Wow, that's a beautiful coin! You're much better than me grading at MS, so I won't try. As for a variety, there are points on the reverse which appear to match my 1940 re-engraved variety.

hhb, gorgeous coin!
i don't know this series well, but this coin just jumps right out at me, as gems do. it appears to be a near perfect strike, and tons of lustre. the only things that sticks out to me are the little mark by the kings chin, and the little mark at 8 o clock on the rim of the obverse.
either way, I would say the coin makes MS64.

That is a beauty. Wow!
Very clean surfaces on the reverse and just a few on the obverse

GORGEOUS! Nice pictures, too Great strike and eye appeal - not going to guess a grade, as I'm not qualified but just had to comment on how nice this one looks.

I'm going to have to start collecting this series (1938-1947).
Nickels, PL sets from 1960-1967 and the pitcher plant... limits suck!
That's a great coin though. Does anyone know what a VF grade would look like for that series?

Depending on where you send it ..MS 62 at best ,,,,If I'm wrong I will take it off your hands for the grading fee...But only if it grades higher ...lol

Are you thinking that coin won't be technically downgraded for the rim nicks and cheek hits? It has great eye appeal granted but that won't matter (or shouldn't) unless you send it south. Reverse looks better than the obverse and I wish it were the other way around.
Who are you sending it to?

Ugly.... Quote: what do you mean with technically downgraded? . CCCS is my choiceI have seen MS64 coins with rim nicks packaged in ICCS flips. Actually I have one. It is certainly one of the nicest NFL cent I have seen and RE Date and RE letters to boot. we shall see what it grades out at... I can only win, as the second one that came with it, also RE, will pay for both. BUT, what do you think it will grade at? we could have a contest going....lololo

I'd say it grades out MS 63 since the use of 61/62 is semi-rare and 60 is reserved for MS coins with lots of bag marks. But that doesn't mean I think it's MS63, that's just where I think it will grade.

Does anyone know why the 1944C in VF is the most expensive in the series minus the re-engraves? It's mintage is 1,328,776 (second highest produced) and costs 2x-3x any other coin in the series. I can't figure out why?!?

I agree with MS-63RB. A very nice coin.
The 1944C mintage numbers do not reflect the coins dated 1944. Most of the stated mintage for 1944 was dated 1943.
