I just saw on ebay ASE slabbed by anacs, but the slab looks different, somewhat similar to pcgs. Anacs web site still show the blue slabs, (the one you can read the grade even when is in the box) any ideas what am I missing ?

Since 2007 ANACS has used these "special" slabs for various specialty promotional items for the major telemarker type people. While I have seen them for a few other issues, the really big use of them was for HSN and the four different 2009 lincolns where they sold sets of each design when each of them first came out and you got a P and D slabbed roll and a P&D MS-67 Rd slab of each for $49.95 and it included a coupon to two free gradings from ANACS.
I have never seen them used as a regular production slab.

Interesting, any idea for the reason? Molds cost a fortune. why would they do that?

Yes, those are the "mainstream" but there's others. those referred above as "specials" I just wonder why they chose to go with a whole new line parallel to the other "new" line ;)

Are these the slabs you are talking about leprecoin? These my EX wife bought these off of HSN I think. I don't think they are graded correctly but that's another thread. Peace Brent

HSN is the "Home Shopping Network" 1 of the 3 big shopping channels. They have a bunch of catchy gimmicks and are very over priced. (thats my opinion) That would be a whole nother thread also. I don't mind what I have, they came in a nice 4 holder "red oak" box along with the P & D rolls. Guess that justifies the cost, NOT
Peace Brent

Happen to pass by a show the other night, they were selling a set of 20 1902-O Morgans for a $1000, looked like they had been cleaned too

It's possible they have a smaller 2 cavity mold for those holders. In that case the tooling costs wouldn't be as high as the molds they use for regular production.

Well the slab IS just a two part slab that does not have a true insert and by using the ready available generic "rubber" inserts they can make just one shell and use it for any denomination.

The production molds for ANACS slabs are 8 cavity molds.4 cavities for fronts, and 4 for backs.I don't know if they have other molds with other vendors, but we run the crap out of them......The gaskets run 24/7.All different sizes. They are not generic, they are propriatary.

Talking about HSN catchy gimmicks, I remember HSN trying to peddle a 2007 George Washington dollar with no edge lettering for $300 a piece. And by the counter in the corner of the screen they were selling lots of them. I was in ebay and found them going from $50 to $80 now!
