I especially liked the part: "That's one way to look at it. Another is that you are paying $34.95, plus $4.95 for shipping, to get 12 bucks." And "You do get a box".

I do not collect State Quarters or Presidential dollars. I do get the Presidential dollars at the bank and go to local retailers to spend them just to see the perplexed look on the cashiers faces. Then I get to explain what they are. It just drives me crazy that those who handle money for a living do not know what is in circulation! If I want a gold dollar this is the one I would prefer and I would be very willing to pay more than $6 for it

On an extremely rare occasion, I fell asleep with the television on the other night. I woke up at some-wee-o'clock hour with the Danbury Mint infomercial droning away in and at my psyche.
ugh and yuck and worse than QVC and that lot.

This infomercial is funny too, in the sense that they don't even bother with other kinds of coins to gouge you on ! It's ONLY Presidential dollars ! ....

WOW places like this should have charges brought against them.
I still remember the wife paying on the HSN like $500.00 for a Sacagawea collection for me for Christmas it was the thought that counts but still makes me mad at how these people rip people off.

It is nice to see someone in the media writing about such worthless things and calling them what they really are.

I saw this article at work today and had to agree. The way these coins are mass produced, they will most likely never be worth anything more than a dollar. It is better to get them at face when stopping by the bank.

bocephus, you see them on HSN and a couple others, actually. They're really quite disgusting when you know what's going on and the people they may be taking advatage of. Especially when they sell plated coins, which is ultimately PMD IMO. And, that commercial with the gold buffalo with "copy" so well hidden in the indian's feather where they can only guarantee the price for one week, for about 6 months now, really makes me sick.
