Quote: Unreal how did you come across that? 'Both' of these finds are unreal. I don't think that "how" is as relevant as 'WHEN' did you come across that (in circulation)? While I do not rule out anything as being possible here, I think that the odds are that the term "in circulation" may have differing definitions to to us.

If you mean found as in given to you as change then as a kid I used to be 'given' Victorian pennies, half pennies quite regularly. That would mean coins that may have been in circulation over 100 years. Obviously that came to an end when Britain went decimal.

I honestly don't know. I'm thinking back 40 years and can only come up with IHC's also. There was a time (o.k; I'm dating myself)when we would get cent bags from the Fed. in Kansas City. EVERY bag had Indians, steels and the occasional foreign. My dad did it solo, starting about '59. He put together a presentable complete set of Linc's, including the '55dd.The only coin he bought was the '09svdb, which could be had for less than 100.00 But the fun didn't stop there, I remember being bummed because the snow was too deep to go outside for days, and then dad would come home from work with a dime or quarter bag. Outside thoughts disappeared.

I still think this is the best thing ever found in circulation that I have seen on this forum....even though some may doubt if this counts as "circulation". 1867 2 cent found in a coin return of a change machine

I found the barber in my teller's tray along with two others from a business that dropped off their change earlier that day. I would say I was in the right place at the right time. I have been roll hunting for about at year now and I am sure most would agree that was a fluke at best.

My oldest true change find was a 1909 LWC. Sadly, no S or VDB on it.

Occasionally I place a few Philly Lincolns back into circulation ... 1909-1930. They're doing me no good tucked away in the dark and I visualize the expression on the face of the finder. Hopefully some young numismatist will come across one of these.

My oldest find is a 1911 Barber dime. I found it roll hunting in the early 1990's. It is very worn, but I still have it in my 7070.
