Call me old fashioned...I cant see paying that much for a hard-to-identify hole filler...with my slab somewhere else.

With a coin valued at that price and increasing rapidly as you progress up the grading scale this would actually be a good opportunity to get a key date in your collection and then over time upgrade.

Wow, this would be a great coin for someone who wanted to build the lowest grade SLQ set possible! Hole-filler? Figuratively, I suppose. But, who in their right mind would dare to crack this coin out to literally fill a hole in an album? Maybe PCGS should start registering the lowest grade sets out there?

I wonder why PCGS doesn't have a low ball registry set for SLQ's. I don't see the appeal in low ball sets, but there are a lot of people out there that like them. It seems like it would make business sense for PCGS.

This coin is easily identifiable as a 1916, and it will always be a 1916 to those who know the diagnostics. For a coin that is gets exponentially expensive in G-4 and above, this would be a great oppertunity for the "average collector" to be able to complete his set. The starting price is very fair in my mind, especially since an ANACS PO-01 sold for $1495 in 2005 in the Heritage archives. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite...&Lot_No=6558

Since the "low end" collectable grade of G-4 for this coin goes for around 3K, this is about as "affordable" as this coin gets. Unless, of course, you find one in a junk lot.

i agree with you ... some people are just in a much better financial position than others...
i think it's great that people can afford 1000.00 plus for coins, I just know I'm not one of them, I'm from Charlotte, NC living in Macon,Ga now and i'd LOVE to have 1 single Charlotte minted coin- if anyone's been to the mint museum there, they have 1 of every coin minted, it's a beautiful collection
I'm not complaining about where I am financially, I do what I can, when I can... getting back into collecting coins is something new for me, and over time I'm sure I will be spending large amounts on them
right now though, MAJOR money goes to another interest I have- Harley's- when I finish this '57 Sportster in the next month or so, then it will free up cash for coin purchases ( yes I sent well over 1000.00 on a box of parts and a frame LOL )
I'm rambling here, but I guess my way of thinking is that putting this out here is a 2nd introduction for myself to the forum

The 1916 has certain diagnostics the the 1917 does not have. The 1916 has the drapery of her dress touching touching the right foot and leg.

Nice coin, I like the original evenly worn look to it.

Yeah, definitely original and crusty. I think the FR-02 this seller had up was overall a better value since it was strong for the grade. He had relisted it, then ended it early; so I'm assuming he had sold it outside of ebay. This one is definitely a P01, with little chance of an upgrade imo. Still, for someone looking to fill the hole, it would do the job and this coin is always in high demand. It'd be awesome if one of our CCF slq fanatics threw down a bid and picked up this rarity!

Well, it's definitely a 1916. And they're not making any more of them... Hmmm...? This coin does however make me wonder why Nod2003's 1916 could not get certified without a date...
