This is a 72 Kennedy. On the obverse, there is a halo type rise around the portrait and the ear is mashed. On the reverse, the eagle looks blobbed, if that makes sense. I know it's not post mint as it came from an uncirculated roll.Any ideas from the Kennedy experts?

Hi,

Yep, this is the result of Die Deterioration. In other words...the coin was struck by an extremely worn die. It's fairly common on Kennedys.

Thanks,
Bill

I didn't know Kennedy liked to wrestle. He should have worn ear guards though .

Funny how this happens in certain years and seems not to happen on other years. On Kennedy half dollars I see it much more frequently in the early 1970s, then again in the early 1980s. It rarely affects 1964-1969 coins.
