They are advertising these on HSN right now for this amount. Not that I could afford one anyway but was just wondering what the opinions are on this price and buying coins off of those shopping channels?

The way I see it most of the gold buffalo's will be Prf68 to 70 so just spend the $800 to get one and add $15 to $30 to get your own graded. There is no way in ____ I would spend more than a total of $850 for something that will become quite regular and the bottom line is they are nothing more than proof gold bullion. Personally I would rather spend $650 and, if I must get it graded, pray for a high grade unc. as they will be by far more scarce. Good luck with what ever you decide!

Almost all HSN's coins run 50% higher than there actual value. I have checked numorus coins on there site. You would be doing yourself a favor to not buy into there hype. When the original Gold Buffalo's came out and were selling from the U.S.Mint for $800, HSN was asking $1199 for the same coin.

heck spend the 800.00 and buy one from the mint, and if you hurry (and if you are a PCGS club member) you can submit it for free (you only pay shipping) and they will grade it for free, that way you will have probably a PR-69 or maybe even a 70 for around 809.00

Run away from HSN and all other Shop-at-home like shows as fast as you can. If these are still available at the mint, then just buy one like has already been stated above. Even if you're not a PCGS or NGC member, your dealer can submit the coin for far less than 2,000. You could even get 2!

Hey Bryan how do you figure you are ever getting anything free from PCGS? You have to pay a ridiculous fee to be a member of their little club so in my eyes NOTHING is free when dealing with the greed of PCGS! I fell for their gimmick for one year and it didn't take long to realize how WRONG the whole idea is! And, of course the body bags steal your money very quickly for nothing!
Let me ask you this, and I am not trying to be rude in any manner but trying to put things in prospective, but how would you feel if you had to join a club at $100 to $300 a year to buy your milk, meat or cereal? I prefer doing my business directly with whomever without any conditions on doing so. If everyone would send a complaint and then quit submitting to PCGS their little club with its very hyped up free benefits which are not free would disappear into the past. It is another area where the coin collectors in the world are REALLY in charge but refuse to do anything about it?

I would have to win the lottery to even be able to afford one from the mint. I wanted to know how people felt about those tv shows mainly. I felt like they were a big hype show but just wanted to confirm it.

Terry, since I am already a member of their club and this doesn't cost extra it is free to me. it is not going to cost me a thing more than I already pay anyhow so it constitutes a free perk to me. Kind of like getting a car dealer to throw in a cd changer in your lamborgini, you know you are paying for it but its still feels like you got it for free because it didnt cost any extra to get it

Bryan I understand what you are saying and am definitely not knocking your decision with PCGS. Personally I think the whole program is NOT set up for collectors but for PCGS's wallet and they really don't give a darn whether you submit a coin, or coins, in the next year as they already have what they wanted---Money for nothing! And then there is the matter of Body Bags which again is money for nothing. I think ALL respectable grading companies should be required to slab anything you submit and list the problem or problems on the slab which would again protect the current owner as well as anyone who may be interested in that slab in the future. But, this would also eliminate them (PCGS) from ever getting that problem coin back again thus denying them the opportunity to again make money for nothing. I must assume a great number of Body Bagged coins will end up on ebay so the whole submital thing could continue with the same coin on an unlimited basis for years to come. Who would this favor? Sorry I just don't believe anyone should have to join a club to do business with someone and I do think EVERY coin that is submitted with payment should have to be slabbed even if it is a counterfeit.

Why don't they grade all coins submitted? I have heard about the bodybag . Do all the grading services use these?

Irishraider, the TV shows' coins are almost always over priced.

The hype is something else. If I don't have anything better to do, I sit back, watch, and laugh a lot.

crystalk you are man after my own heart I agree with so many of your views. I appreciate that .. Good advice everyone.. and bryan1313 I know what you are saying, before I paid that amount I would by fromm the mint, become a member of pcgs and send it off for grading.. but otherwise I am not a big fan of big business , of any sort an definately not garding companies.. this Grading company hype is what ruined the sports card collectables market.. I have maybe a couple million cards including some babe ruths , cy young , walter johnsons, pete rose etc etc etc. I cant even get a dealer to buy them all from me because nobody will want them.. do to lost interest in that type of collectable Thank you "Dr B_cke_t" this is only my opionion and is not meant to discourage others or change their opionion in any way.. Irishraider stay away from the coin shows on tv like everyone has said. bad juju..

a bodybag is when NGC and PCGS deems the coin ungradable because its a problem coin, ANACS slabs problem coins so you do not get bodybags. It is just a term used when the TPG company sends your coin back to you in a 2x2 flip instead of a slab because it has problems

Not just PCGS & NGC, any respected grading company body bags coins if cleaned, whizzed, damaged, counterfit or any other reason the TPG's might have in their "hit list" for not slabbing the coin. The ONLY TPG that DOES slab a problem coin is ANACS in their "old" holder with an attribute stated what the problem is ex: cleaned, whizzed, rim damage etc-
BTW, I have had coins returned in body bags from both PCGS & NGC with their little print out in the 2x2 flip stating why it is so--2 $20 gold saints came back as cleaned and a 3rd one was whizzed--
